Pros and cons of wearing socks while sleeping

There has always been a debate about whether you should wear socks while sleeping or not, especially in winters. While there are some benefits, keeping socks on while sleeping have a few adverse effects as well. 

Benefits of wearing socks to bed

  • Wearing socks to bed keeps our body warm and prevents our feet from drying out
  • Wearing socks in bed increases blood flow to the feet which decreases core body temperature and helps sleep better
  • Wearing socks to bed improves blood flow to your feet and heals cracked heels. 

Adverse effects:

  • According to experts wearing socks which are too tight can be a barrier in blood circulation.
  • If socks are not clean, it can cause various skin infections 
    The material of socks also matters.
  • It is always advised to wear 100% cotton or natural fibre socks and not nylon.
  • People who live in hot climates should avoid wearing socks  
  • People with fungal infections or wounds on feet must also avoid it.
