Candle lovers think twice before lighting up that wick!
According to a researcher from Deakin University, burning scented candles can pollute homes with toxic chemicals that might be harmful to the lungs.
Dr. Svetlana Stevanovic explained that the combustion process releases particulates that go directly to our lungs. People may experience eye, nose and throat irritation or headaches and nausea. However, these health problems may depend on the level and length of exposure.
Scented candles become more toxic indoors. Hence, the key to burning candles and blowing them out is to use them in a well-ventilated area, the expert concluded.
