Comfort food, emotional food or whatever you want to call it, could be harming your heart more than the calories, according to a new study.
The study was published in the European Journal of Preventative Cardiology and it found that food consumed due to any emotional reason be it anger or sadness might trigger heart issues.
The research team from the University Hospital of Nancy, France studied 1,109 participants over a period of 13 years on the basis of their emotional eating habits.
The study found that emotional eating causes arteries to get stiffer which is generally the major reason behind heart attacks and strokes. It also added that while stress raises the risk of heart issues by 32%, emotional eating increases it by 38%.
