A new study says your favourite junk food might make you feel happy for the time being but could also be responsible for mental imbalance.
The study was published in the Journal of Affective Disorders, and it found that rates of depression are 80% higher in those who consume ultra-processed foods in huge amounts.
The team questioned 2,572 graduate and undergraduate students in Brazil about their food habits every two years between 2016 and 2020.
Their body mass index, alcohol consumption, smoking habits and other habits were taken into consideration along with the fact if they had diabetes or had been diagnosed with clinical depression earlier or not.
Those who had ultra-processed foods as about 31% of their daily diet, were up to 82% more likely to be diagnosed with depression as compared to those who ate the least amount of ultra-processed foods, as less than 16% of their daily diet.
