Amidst the surge in tomato prices, the presence of tomatoes in our everyday diet has sparked debates regarding their necessity. So, let's explore the truth behind the importance of tomatoes in our diet.

In India, tomatoes, much like onions, have become a staple in food preparation primarily for their colour and flavour rather than their nutritional benefits. Moreover, the Indian culinary tradition utilizes them in smaller quantities.

As per nutritionists, the absence of tomatoes in a person's diet may not have a significant impact. Alternative food sources can provide similar nutrients, contributing to a healthy lifestyle.

But undeniably, there are several benefits of tomatoes as they are packed with essential nutrients, including vitamins A, C, and K, as well as potassium and manganese.

Other than this, one of the standout components of tomatoes is lycopene, a powerful antioxidant. Lycopene has been linked to various health benefits, such as reducing the risk of heart disease, certain cancers, and age-related macular degeneration.

While the necessity of tomatoes in our diet may be subject to debate, there are undeniable health benefits of this fruit.
