Fans were worried and shocked after news of 'Emily in Paris' star Ashley Park battling septic shock in the hospital went viral. The actress shared that she is recovering but the journey to recovery is tough. She took to Instagram and wrote, “While on holiday in December into New Year's, what started as tonsillitis spiraled into critical septic shock, which infected and affected several of my organs. The 32-year-old actor further added that "her health “has improved despite what we had initially been told.”

What is septic shock?

Septic shock is the last stage of sepsis. Sepsis is life-threatening. It happens when your immune system overreacts to an infection. Septic shock is life-threatening and requires immediate medical treatment as it is the most severe stage of sepsis. 

What are the symptoms of septic shock?

Some common symptoms of septic shock are fast heart rate, Fever or hypothermia (low body temperature), shaking or chills, warm, clammy, or sweaty skin, confusion, hyperventilation (rapid breathing), and shortness of breath.

Some other symptoms are very low blood pressure, lightheadedness, little or no urine output, heart palpitations, and cool and pale limbs.

Bacterial infections are the most common cause of sepsis, though it can be caused by fungi and viral infections, too.
