Singer Celine Dion recently uploaded a video on Instagram, where she revealed that she has been diagnosed with a rare neurological disease called ‘Stiff Person Syndrome’.
Stiff Person Syndrome is a rare neurological disease that affects the central nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord and can get triggered by sudden movement, cold temperature and stress. According to the Stiff Person Foundation, in extreme cases, patient suffering from the condition might get bed-ridden, disabled and be unable to work.
The condition causes muscle stiffness that may come and go but remains constant over time. In most cases, leg muscles are the ones that become stiff followed by muscles of other body parts including face.
According to the Johns Hopkins Stiff Person Syndrome Center treatment for this neurological disorder are immunomodulating therapies, symptomatic therapies, behavioral and physical therapies that the centre itself offers.
