Actor Varun Dhawan recently announced at a press meet that he is dealing with Vestibular Hypofunction.
Speaking to the media, he said that recently he shut down and didn’t know what had happened to him. He added that he later found out that he had Vestibular Hypofunction, where, basically a person’s balance goes off.
Also known as Vertigo, Vestibular Hypofunction happens due to the improper functioning of the balance system of the inner ear part of the human body. The vestibular system is present in the inner ear and helps in maintaining the balance of the eyes and the muscles. When it does not work properly, it sends error messages to the brain and that’s when a person experiences dizziness and loses body balance.

As per John Hopkins Medicines, the treatment depends on the cause of the disorder. In some cases, antibiotics or antifungal treatments are recommended to treat ear infections.
On the other hand, if medicine and other therapies cannot cure the symptoms, surgery is needed in order to stabilise and repair inner ear function.
Other than these, changes in lifestyle and diet can also help in minimising the effects of the disease.
