In our busy lives, we tend to multi task right from the time we wake up till we go back to bed again. Some people enter the bathroom and complete all tasks together in one go to save time.
If you are also one of them, who brushes the teeth in the shower itself then it is time to change this habit. Brushing your teeth in the shower may save time but it could do more harm than good.
According to dentists, it's important to break the multitasking oral hygiene routine as it exposes you to more bacteria. Dr. Payal Bhalla, lead dentist and clinical director of Quest Dental in England also agrees that.
The doctor says that the water temperature during a bath is generally warmer. Dental experts suggest not exposing a toothbrush to heat and humidity as that can weaken the bristles, making it ineffective to clean the teeth. Therefore, it is recommended to store toothbrushes in a cool dry place and away from the shower or toilet.
Bhalla also said that “the shower head can harbor bacteria, and when you brush your teeth under the shower head, you may be exposing your toothbrush to those bacteria, again increasing your likelihood of illness.”
Apart from this, dentists also advised that brushing your teeth in the shower may increase the chances of falls if your toothpaste dribbles on the floor.
