'Monkey see, monkey do, monkey eats banana too!' Wondering why are we talking about this? Well, here's the reason why!

Maurizio Cattelan, the artist who rose to fame for his artwork in 2019 is now at the center of a copyright suit.

Speaking of the infamous artwork 'Comedian'; it was made with a ripe banana bought from a grocery store in Miami, duct-taped to a wall. Yes, you heard it right! And believe it or not, the so-called artwork was sold for a whopping amount of $1,20,000 (Rs 95 lakhs).

The piece created a worldwide buzz and nearly after two years, the artist has now been sued for plagiarism (can refer to the monkey phrase again).

As per the lawsuit, Maurizio copied the artwork from Joe Morford, who made a similar piece with bananas and oranges in the year 2000.

However, as per the judge, the creative freedom of the artist should be respected and no one can claim a copyright on ideas.
