It is time to express your right and vote as various parts of India vote during the Lok Sabha Elections. If you are also exercising your right to vote and are heading to the polling station in this extreme heat, here are some tips to keep yourself safe from the sun.

Standing in the voting line for a long time can cause heat stroke. Many parts of the country are reeling under extreme heatwave conditions. Delhi, Rajasthan, UP and other parts of North India have been issued a heatwave alert.

If you are voting, here are some tips to stay safe from the heat.

How to stay safe from sunstroke

Carry water bottle

Drink lots of water and keep your body hydrated. Experts have asked people to have summer drinks like coconut water, mint water, lemon water, fresh fruit juices and buttermilk. Carry a bottle or 2 when voting. Make sure to hand it out to your fellow voters as well.

Apply sunscreen, carry umbrella

Save your skin from severe sunburns by generously applying broad-spectrum sunscreen every 2-3 hours. Make sure to carry an umbrella as well.

Wear loose, cotton clothes

Wear light, loose, cotton clothing to remain cool and to cover your head from direct sunlight. Make sure to not wear heavy clothes and avoid black-coloured attire.

Carry fresh fruits

Have fresh fruits and vegetable juices with your meals and consume a plant-based diet. You can carry a bottle of fresh juice. Many states have extended the voting time due to the heat.

Eat before you go to vote

Make sure to have a healthy and filling breakfast before leaving home for voting.
