In a study conducted by the Institute for Business Value (IBM), it was revealed that approximately 40 per cent of employees are anticipated to undergo reskilling within the next three years. This equates to around 1.4 billion individuals out of the global workforce of 3.4 billion, as indicated by World Bank data. This reskilling necessity arises mainly due to the influence of AI and automation.
The impact of AI is projected to be felt across all job levels, with a particular emphasis on entry-level positions or newcomers to the workforce. Notably, 77 per cent of surveyed executives acknowledged that AI's effects are already being observed in entry-level roles, and this trend is anticipated to intensify over the coming years.
IBM's research draws data from two comprehensive studies: one involving 3,000 C-level executives from 28 countries, and the other encompassing 21,000 workers across 22 countries.
The study underscores that employees who successfully transition their skills to align with technology-driven shifts experience an average premium of 15 per cent in revenue growth rate. Additionally, those who leverage AI in their roles exhibit a remarkable 36 per cent higher revenue growth rate compared to their peers who do not engage with AI.
