Diljit Dosanjh recently visited the beautiful quaint city of Kinnaur and fans can’t get enough of the beautiful pics the singer has posted on social media. This summer plan a trip to Kinnaur to explore snowcapped mountains, monasteries and apple orchards.

Where is Kinnaur located?

Kinnaur is a district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is situated in the southeastern part of Himachal Pradesh and is known for its stunning landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and unique traditions. The district is nestled in the Himalayas and is bordered by Tibet to the east. Kinnaur is famous for its apple orchards, picturesque valleys, ancient monasteries, and warm-hearted people.

Top most popular places to visit in Kinnaur

Sangla Valley: Known for its natural beauty, apple orchards, and the Kamru Fort.

Kalpa: A small town famous for its breathtaking views of the Kinner Kailash range.

Nako: A high-altitude village known for its scenic lake and ancient monastery.

Recong Peo: The district headquarters and a bustling town with shops, markets, and administrative offices.

Chitkul: The last inhabited village near the Indo-China border, offering stunning views of the mountains and Baspa River.

What else to expect while visiting Kinnaur

Kinnaur is also culturally rich. Many ancient temples and monasteries dot the landscape, reflecting the spiritual heritage of the region. The local people, predominantly of Kinnauri ethnicity, are known for their warm hospitality and vibrant festivals. The best season to visit is Mid-April to June and September to October.

The district is accessible by road, with the nearest major town being Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. However, due to its rugged terrain and high altitude, travel in Kinnaur can be challenging, especially during the winter months when some areas may be snowbound.

How to reach Kinnaur

Reaching Kinnaur typically involves traveling by road, as there are no airports or train stations directly connected to the district. Here are the different ways you can reach Kinnaur:

By Road: Kinnaur is well-connected by road to major cities and towns in Himachal Pradesh and neighboring states. The most common route is via Shimla, which is connected to major cities like Delhi and Chandigarh by road.

By Air: The nearest airport to Kinnaur is Jubbarhatti Airport in Shimla, which is around 250 kilometers away. However, flights to Shimla are limited and may not be available throughout the year due to weather conditions.
Alternatively, you can fly to Chandigarh Airport, which is better connected to major cities in India. From Chandigarh, you can continue your journey to Kinnaur by road.

By Train: The nearest major railway station to Kinnaur is in Kalka, which is well-connected to cities like Delhi and Chandigarh. From Kalka, you can either travel to Shimla by the historic Kalka-Shimla toy train and then proceed to Kinnaur by road, or you can directly travel to Kinnaur via Chandigarh or Shimla by road.
