The world is calling, and Indians are answering like never before! A new era of travel has dawned, with Indians embracing international trips at an unprecedented pace. According to a fresh report. there’s been a 32% increase in the number of Indians travelling abroad twice or more within a year.

That’s right—Indians are travelling more frequently than ever, and it’s reshaping the travel landscape!
Leading the charge are the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Delhi, which top the charts in international travel searches. This data comes from MakeMyTrip's 'How India Travels Abroad' report, covering travel trends from June 2023 to May 2024.

And where are they headed? The classic favourites remain—UAE, Thailand, and the US continue to be the most popular destinations. But there’s a twist—new hotspots are rising fast!
Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Bhutan are emerging as exciting travel destinations for Indian travellers, seeing a surge in popularity. These hidden gems are quickly becoming must-visit spots! Interestingly, the report reveals that Indians' wanderlust remains consistent throughout the year, with December emerging as the peak month for travel searches.

Rajesh Magow, Co-founder and Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, attributes this surge to factors like rising disposable incomes, greater exposure to global cultures, and the increasing ease of travel.

The report highlights a 70% spike in search volumes for the top 10 emerging destinations. Almaty and Baku are exploding in popularity, with growth rates of 527% and 395%, respectively!

Luxury travel is also on the rise, with a 10% increase in searches for business-class flights. On the accommodation front, nearly half of international hotel bookings now fall in the above Rs 7,000 per night category, with New York standing out as the priciest city.

Meanwhile, for budget-savvy travellers, South Asian destinations like Pokhara, Pattaya, and Kuala Lumpur offer appealing options that combine affordability with unforgettable experiences.
