"I ran out of countries, so I created my own"
Meet Randy “R Dub!” Williams, a Radio jockey and traveller, who created his own country in the US and now refers to himself as 'the Sultan of Slowjamastan.'
During an interview, Williams said, “One of the reasons I created Slowjamastan was because, after 193 countries, I wanted a 194th!” He purchased an 11.07-acre plot of empty land in the California desert in October 2021 for $19,000 which is approximately ₹15,66,920.
The official name of his country is named after his radio show, 'The United Territories of the Sovereign Nation of The People’s Republic of Slowjamastan'. Founded in September 2021, the time zone of the country is SST (Slowjamastan Standard Time). Apart from this, the new country issues its own passports, flies its own flag, prints its own currency and has a national anthem too.
The Republic of Slowjamastan currently has over 500 registered citizens, while around 4,500 people are waiting in line for citizenship.
As of now, Williams is working on creating diplomatic ties with other countries. He has also had his Slowjamastan passport stamped by 16 different countries, including South Africa, New Zealand, Vanuatu and the United States.
