AIMA Conclave: Speaking at All India Management Association’s (AIMA) 7th National Leadership Conclave, Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder, and Chairman, Bharti Enterprises talked about his early life struggles and said business should be more than just generating employment or paying your taxes.
Sunil revealed his first business was to manufacture cycle parts for Hero Cycles and some other customers.
In a conversation with Sunil Kant Munjal, Chairman, Hero Enterprise, at AIMA conclave 2022, Mittal mentioned that very large business houses whether Reliance or Adani, all entrepreneurs have come through difficult periods of no resources, very little money, but they all hustle their life.
Business is a force for good and it has a very strong multiplier effect in the society that we live in, Mittal said. Bharti’s chief pointed out, “Our business needs to now speak to society in a much more fundamental way where they are gaining from what you are doing, so it is more than just generating employment or paying your taxes.
Are you doing it in a responsible way? Are you creating enough momentum through your business to accelerate the participation of the people on the margins of society to come into the mainstream?”
Bharti Airtel fought difficult battles and emerged stronger as a "very stable organisation", after a five-year storm in the telecom industry that was marked by falling revenue and high debt, Mittal said.
Airtel is completely managed by professionals who are best-in-class, he asserted.
