Thousands of people gathered in southern Argentina on Monday to catch a glimpse of the total eclipse of the sun. Authorities say nearly 8000 tourists gathered despite Covid-19 restrictions in the city of Piedra Del Aguila in Patagonia. In Chile too, the sky briefly turned dark around midday as thousands of Chileans gathered to marvel at the event. Live images were shared from the Institute of Astrophysics of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, which showed the gradual darkening.
