In a surprising revelation, a National Institutes of Health study has discovered that 1 in 4 women experience high levels of depressive symptoms at some point in the three years after giving birth. The remaining women faced low-level postpartum depression symptoms through the 3-year span based on the study of 5,000 women.

Publishing the findings in the journal Pediatrics, lead researcher Diane Putnick said, 'Our study indicates that six months may not be long enough to gauge depressive symptoms.'

Postpartum depression is an extremely common condition and can make it difficult for mothers to take care of themselves and their baby.
