It seems like Hardik Pandya's absence proved to be a blessing in disguise for Mohd Shami as the Indian pacer returned to the playing XI with a bang, rattling New Zealand's batting lineup with a fifer at Dharamsala in the ODI World Cup.
The 33-year-old opened up his spell with a wicket on the very first delivery and finished his spell with an impressive 5/54.
Daryl Mitchell's scintillating hundred (130), however, fired the Kiwis to a competitive 273.
This was New Zealand's 1st hundred in ODI World Cups against Team India since 1975.
Mitchell put together a record 159-run partnership with Rachin Ravindra, who contributed to the Black Caps' total with a superb 75.
