Unfortunately, cheese gets a pretty bad rep for being too unhealthy but that’s not always true. There are plenty of nutritious cheese varieties that are great for your health when consumed in moderation. Here’s a few of them.
Parmesan
A hard cheese, parmesan can be a good option for people with lactose intolerance. This low lactose cheese has about 8 grams of protein per ounce. It's also low in fat and high in calcium and phosphorous.
Goat cheese
If you have a hard time digesting cheese made from milk, then goat milk is a great alternative that won’t disrupt your digestive system. It's relatively lower in calories at 100 kcals per ounce and can substitute cow cheese in many recipes.
Feta
Popularised most recently by Tik Tok pasta recipes, feta is low in calories and fat but high in calcium. Also rich in probiotics and other nutrients, feta’s tangy taste makes it a great one to eat in salads or by itself.
Ricotta
Known for its rich creamy texture, ricotta is great thanks to the amino acids in its whey. The whey boasts of benefits like building muscle, lowering blood pressure, and reducing cholesterol.
Mozzarella
For people who want something low-sodium and low-calorie, mozzarella is a great choice. The cheese gives you equal amounts of fat and protein per serving. It’s also great for your gut thanks to probiotics from healthy bacteria.
