US to share 500 million doses of Pfizer vaccine

Big announcement on sharing the popular Pfizer vaccine is expected from US President Joe Biden ahead of the G7 meeting.

Reports in international media state that the U.S. will buy 500 million more doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine to share through the global COVAX alliance for donation to 92 lower-income countries and the African Union over the next year.

200 million doses of Pfizer are likely to bought and distributed this year while 300 more will be purchased next year for distribution. The news was first reported by the Washington Post.

United States has been facing pressure to reduce global inequities in vaccine share especially as 64% of adults have received at least one dose in the the country.
