Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday stepped up the attack on the Centre over the farm laws. He drove a tractor to Parliament to protest the farm laws. Gandhi's tractor protest at Parliament is seen as kickstarting the campaign for Punjab assembly election slated for nect year.
"I've brought farmers' message to Parliament. They (Govt) are suppressing voices of farmers & not letting a discussion take place in Parliament. They'll have to repeal these black laws," Rahul said.
Several Congress leaders, including Randeep Singh Surjewala and Youth Congress chief BV Srinivas, were detained by the Delhi Police after the tractor protest.
Hundreds of farmers have been protesting against the new central laws for eight months now. The opposition and the farmers are demanding repeal of the laws that Centre says will reform farming against benefit the farmers. The farmers, however, have claimed that the new laws will only benefit the corporates.
The farmers have been holding a parallel kisan sansad at Jantar Mantar in Delhi during the ongoing Monsoon Session to put pressure on the Centre to accede to their demands.
