In past 10 days, India has continued to record over 1000 daily death six times and this could now be the new normal in terms of Covid-19 fatality.
While Maharashtra, which is the worst hit state and continues to report between 300 and 400 deaths every day, sometimes even higher, large number of deaths are being reported from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and increasingly now from Punjab, which has relatively lesser number of infected people.
On Friday, Punjab crossed 6000 Covid-19 cases and on Wednesday reported more than 100 deaths for the first time, which is relatively higher compared to number of cases.
Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are the other two states that are consistently reporting more than 100 deaths every day. The daily death count is likely to increase further in the coming week because of the sharp rise in the number of infections that we are witnessing right now.
People whose deaths are being reported right now are from the batch which would have been found to be infected at least ten days ago.
At that time, India was discovering between 60,000 and 70,000 new cases every day. In the last one week, this number has gone up substantially, being well over 80,000 on most days.
