On Monday, a police officer said the case has been transferred to the Central Crime Branch of Bengaluru (CCB) for further investigation.
"The investigating officer in the case has arrested Pallavi Om Prakash (64)," the officer added. Later, she was produced before a judge, who sent her to judicial custody for 14 days.
When police took Pallavi to the crime scene, she told reporters there that "domestic violence" was the reason behind the extreme step.
The body of the former Karnataka police chief, a 1981 batch IPS officer hailing from Bihar, was found in a pool of blood on the ground floor of his three-storey house in the posh HSR Layout in the city on Sunday.
It is learnt that a heated exchange of words led to Pallavi allegedly throwing chilli powder on Prakash's face, police sources said.
As the former police chief scrambled for relief from the burning sensation caused by chilli powder, Pallavi allegedly stabbed him multiple times, killing him on the spot, they said.
Sources claimed that after killing her husband, she made a video call to her friend to say, "I have killed the monster." In his complaint, Kartikesh alleged that his mother Pallavi had been threatening to kill his father for the past one week. "Due to these threats, my father went to stay at his sister's house," he said.
"Two days ago, my younger sister Kriti went there and pressured my father to return home. She brought him back against his will," Kartikesh alleged.
He said that on Sunday around 5 pm, when he was at the Karnataka Golf Association in Domlur, his neighbour called him to inform him that his father was found lying downstairs.
"I rushed home and found police officers and people present on the spot. My father was lying in a pool of blood with injuries on his head and body. A broken bottle and a knife were found next to his body. He was then taken to St John's Hospital," he explained.
"My mother Pallavi and my sister Kriti used to fight with my father often. I strongly suspect that they are involved in the murder of my father. I request you to initiate legal action in this case," he said in his complaint to the police.
Sources said the murder was the culmination of frequent run-ins between the couple. It is learnt that a dispute over a piece of property in Karnataka's Dandeli was the focal point of the crime.
A few months ago, Pallavi had approached the HSR Layout police station to lodge a complaint. When the staff there refused, she staged a sit-in in front of the police station, sources claimed.
It has also been learnt that Pallavi was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was taking medicines.
Meanwhile, the former top police brass was cremated with full state honours in Bengaluru on Monday after the autopsy. Kartikesh performed the last rites.
Speaking to reporters after the cremation, Kartikesh said, "After yesterday's incident, I lodged a complaint. The police are doing their job, and I have full faith in them. I don't want to comment further as the investigation will reveal everything. Let's wait for that." The 68-year-old retired IPS officer was a native of Champaran, Bihar, and held a Master's degree in Geology. Prakash was appointed Director General of Police on March 1, 2015.&nbsp;

The incident occurred while the officer was on his way to the airport with his wife, who is also an IAF officer.
Based on a complaint by the officer&rsquo;s wife, Squadron Leader Madhumita Dutta, a case has been registered at the Byappanahalli police station against unknown individuals.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Devaraj D told PTI: "This is a case of road rage. An altercation took place, and both sides attacked each other. The accused has been taken into custody. At around 6 am, the officer was heading from his DRDO quarters to Kempegowda International Airport. His wife was driving, and he was seated beside her. An altercation broke out between the couple and a bike rider." CCTV footage and videos recorded by bystanders suggested that the conflict could have been avoided, he added.
"When they came to the police station, the SHO advised the officer to get first aid, as he was bleeding, and return to file the FIR. But since he was getting late, he left for the airport. After he went live on social media, we traced Madhumita's details and contacted the DRDO quarters. She came to the station and lodged a complaint. We have registered an FIR under grievous hurt," the DCP said.
During questioning, the accused claimed he was passing by when the woman allegedly made a remark. He said he asked, "What are you talking about?" and then approached the officer, asking, "What is madam saying?" An argument followed. "We have ample video evidence and will proceed with the investigation," the DCP added.
Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose alleged he was attacked and verbally abused by men who followed them on a two-wheeler.
He posted a video on Instagram narrating the events and showing injuries on his face and neck.
"We live in DRDO, CV Raman Nagar Phase 1. This morning, my wife was driving me to the airport when a bike came from behind and blocked our car. I&rsquo;ll share dash cam footage too. One of the riders started abusing me in Kannada. On seeing the DRDO sticker, he said, &lsquo;You DRDO people,&rsquo; followed by more abuse. He then abused my wife. I couldn&rsquo;t take it," he said.
Recounting the assault, Bose said: "When I got out of the car, he immediately hit me on the forehead with his keys. I stood there shouting, asking if this is how people treat Defence personnel. More individuals gathered and began abusing us." He added, "That man even picked up a stone and tried to damage our car. When I tried to stop him, he hit me again. You can see the blood&mdash;this is what happened. Thankfully, my wife was there to get me out." Bose also claimed they went to the police station but did not receive immediate help.
"But this is what Karnataka has become. I believed in this state, but after today&rsquo;s incident, I&rsquo;m shocked. God help us. God give me the strength not to retaliate. But if law and order fail, I will," he said in the video.
While the exact location is yet to be officially confirmed, Bose said the incident took place on the route from CV Raman Nagar to the airport.
In a second video posted later, Bose said he was heading to Kolkata to visit his ailing father. He described the assault as &ldquo;shocking&rdquo; and said it had deeply affected his family.

Calling it a "national disaster", he urged the Centre to step in and provide immediate assistance to the affected people.
The landslide-hit Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for a second consecutive day, with a senior National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) official saying the road clearance operation, underway at 20 locations, was likely to take about six days.
Hundreds of vehicles were left stranded on the strategic 250-kilometre highway after Sunday's heavy rainfall and cloudbursts triggered flash floods, landslides and mudslides in the district.
Three persons, including two minor siblings, were killed and more than 100 people were rescued as the natural calamity caused massive damage to infrastructure, including roads and residential buildings. A number of vehicles were also buried under the debris.
"This is a very big disaster -- it is actually a national disaster. Entire villages have been affected. Three people have died and we are still uncertain about the full extent of the damage. I hope the government of India and the prime minister will provide maximum assistance and support to these people," Abdullah told reporters on the sidelines of a function.
The former chief minister of the erstwhile state said another cloudburst had occurred at a separate location, claiming two more lives.
"These are major natural disasters. We need to act urgently and put measures in place to prevent their recurrence," he said.
Calling for better water management systems, Abdullah laid stress on the need for repairing 'nullahs (canals)' to ensure proper flow and reduce the risk of future disasters.
"We need to fix the canals so that their water flows directly and doesn't scatter. The entire mountain has collapsed. People can no longer live there, they must be relocated and resettled in safer areas," Abdullah said.
He also emphasised "everyone needs to step in -- whether it is the central or the state government" and added, "This is the time to act and save lives." Abdullah highlighted the fragile condition of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway -- the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country.
"It has been badly affected. If the train had been operational, people could have used it and been safe. Unfortunately, the weather was so bad that even the prime minister could not come (for its inauguration)," he said.
Underscoring the urgent need for alternative connectivity, Abdullah said, "The burden on Mughal Road has increased and people are being stopped at Sundarbani (Rajouri) and released in phases. We have only one road -- it has become a path of destruction." The Mughal Road connects the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu region with south Kashmir's Shopian district.
Pitching for more tunnels to avoid disasters, he said a tunnel from Doda must be expedited.
"A tunnel on the Mughal Road is also essential. We need multiple alternative routes to connect the region," Abdullah said.

The police have identified Pallavi as the prime suspect, citing a potential motive linked to a dispute over real estate that Om Prakash had transferred to a family member. A police case has been filed based on a complaint by the couple's son, Kartikeya.
Kartikeya claims both his mother and sister suffer from depression and had previously threatened his father. Due to these threats, Om Prakash had temporarily moved to his sister&rsquo;s house for safety but was brought back by his daughter just 48 hours prior to the tragic event.
On the day of the murder, Kartikeya was at an event in Domlur when neighbours alerted him to the incident. He rushed home only to find police at the scene and his father dead in a pool of blood. He stated, "My mother, Pallavi, and my sister, Kruthi, have been suffering from depression and used to fight with my father frequently. I strongly suspect that they are involved in the murder of my father."
As investigations continue, no arrests have been made. Om Prakash, originally from Bihar, held a master's degree in Geology and had a distinguished career, having served as the Director General of Police of Karnataka in March 2025. He also led the Fire and Emergency Services and Home Guards before his tenure as police chief.

Those killed include central committee member of the extremist Prayag Manjhi alias Vivek, special area committee member Arvind Yadav alias Avinash, zonal committee member Sahebram Manjhi alias Rahul Manjhi, Mahesh Manjhi alias Mota, Talu, Ranju Manjhi, Gangaram and Mahesh.
Vivek carried a bounty of Rs 1 crore, Arvind Yadav had a reward of Rs 25 lakh and Sahebram Majhi of Rs 10 lakh. They were booked by the police in various cases of violence, the officials said.
The central committee is the top decision-making body of the Maoists organisation, they said.
No injuries have been reported among the security personnel, they said.
The CoBRA is the special jungle warfare unit of the CRPF.
The operation is part of the Union government's declaration of eliminating Naxalism from the country by March, 2026.

The ED had recently filed a chargesheet against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and others before a special court in New Delhi in the National Herald case accusing them of allegedly laundering Rs 988 crore.
The prosecution complaint filed on April 9 under various sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) named Sonia Gandhi, a former Congress president, as the accused no 1, and her son and MP Rahul Gandhi, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, as accused no 2.

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will begin on June 30, after a gap of five years, an official statement said on Monday.
The yatra will pass through the Lipulekh Pass located at an altitude of 17,000 feet in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district, it said.
The pilgrimage, which is organised every year, was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and since then it could not be conducted. But, due to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, it will be conducted this year, it said.
A meeting was held in New Delhi on Monday regarding the yatra under the aegis of the Uttarakhand government and the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. During the meeting, the responsibility of conducting the pilgrimage was handed over to the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam, it said.
The yatra will commence from Delhi on June 30 in which there will be five groups of 50 people each, a total of 250 devotees, will take part.
The first group for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will enter China via Lipulekh Pass on July 10 and the last group will depart from China for India on August 22.
The statement said that each team will depart from Delhi and after staying one night in Tanakpur in Champawat district of Uttarakhand, one night in Dharchula in Pithoragarh district, two nights in Gunji and two nights in Nabhidang, will enter Taklakot in China.
After visiting Kailash, the passenger will depart from China and after staying one night in Bundi of Pithoragarh district, one night in Chaukori and one night in Almora, he will reach Delhi.
Thus, each team will travel for a total of 22 days.
According to the statement, the health check-up of all the pilgrims going on Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will be done first in Delhi and then in Gunji.
Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar, located in Tibet under Chinese control, have great religious significance. Hindus believe that Mount Kailash is the abode of Lord Shiva and that by circumambulating it and taking a bath in Lake Manasarovar, one attains salvation.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended the 'Guru Gorakhnath Health Service Yatra 5.0' event in Lucknow on Monday, where he addressed the development of the 54 villages of the Vantangiya community.&nbsp;
CM Yogi stated that since the formation of his government in 2017, they had focused on the welfare of these villages, recognizing them and providing essential services like voting rights.&nbsp;
He added, "In 2017, after our government was formed, we thought about the 54 villages of the Vantangiya community, recognised them and also provided all facilities to them, including voting rights. Earlier, they were exploited by police."
Earlier on Sunday, CM Yogi visited Kanpur to inspect the venue for a public meeting ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit. He also convened a meeting with public representatives and officials at Chandrashekhar Agriculture University in preparation for the visit. During his trip, CM Yogi took a metro ride from Nayaganj to Rawatpur metro station in Kanpur.
Additionally, CM Yogi visited Gorakhpur to review the Herbert Bandha four-lane road project, emphasizing that it will alleviate transportation issues and ease traffic congestion.&nbsp;
Furthermore, CM Yogi approved infrastructure development projects worth over Rs 700 crore for the district. He also highlighted plans to widen and strengthen roads in Gorakhpur, along with constructing new four-lane roads and an overbridge.
In a post on X, CM Yogi shared, "Today I participated in the programme organised for the on-site inspection of the widening and strengthening of roads in Gorakhpur district, new construction of a 4-lane road, and construction of an overbridge. Giving further impetus to the prosperity journey of Gorakhpur, development works worth more than Rs 700 crores have been approved for the public. Hyderabad: The Enforcement Directorate has summoned popular actor Ghattamaneni Mahesh Babu in a money laundering case linked to realty groups Surana Group and Sai Surya Developers.
The agency has asked Mr Babu to appear for an inquiry on Sunday. The actor, it was found, received over Rs 5.5 crore for appearing in advertisements for the Surana Group.
Sai Surya Developers paid Mr Babu Rs 5.9 crore, including Rs 2.5 crore in cash and Rs 3.4 crore via cheque, for promotional activities.
The Enforcement Directorate will investigate the remuneration paid to Mr Babu. During searches at Surana Group's affiliated companies, Sai Surya Developers and Bhagyanagar Properties, officials of the agency have uncovered illegal transactions worth Rs 100 crore and seized Rs 74.5 lakh in cash.
Key evidence, the agency has said, was found at the residences of Surana Group chairman Narendra Surana and Managing Director Devendar Surana at Madhapur in Hyderabad's Jubilee Hills and Bowenpally.
Evidence has also been gathered from the offices of Sai Surya Developers. The Enforcement Directorate has said Surana Group engaged in a massive fraud under the guise of real estate ventures.
The agency said in a statement that they searched four premises in Hyderabad and Secunderabad last Wednesday as part of their probe.

An FIR has been registered against a 40-year-old IAF officer based on a counter-complaint by a call centre employee, who was previously arrested on the officer's complaint in a road rage incident, police said on Tuesday.
Indian Air Force Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose made an allegation in a video he shared that he was attacked and verbally abused by a group of Kannada-speaking individuals who chased him on a bike in Bengaluru early Monday morning. Terming it a case of road rage, police arrested Vikas Kumar, who works as a team head at a software company's call centre.
Both parties have attacked each other, and some purported videos showed the IAF officer roughing up the accused, creating a scene for the onlookers. The officer was captured engaging in an argument with Kumar and beating him up in full public view, even as his wife tried to stop him.
The incident occurred while the officer was on his way to the airport with his wife, who is also an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer.
A case has been registered against Shiladitya Bose under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Byappanahalli police station based on the counter complaint given by Vikas Kumar who alleged that he was also assaulted by the officer, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Devaraj D.
In a video statement, Kumar's mother Jyothi sought justice for her son and asked isn't it wrong to put the blame entirely on her son? She said being a commander, an IAF officer, he thrashed her son and also damaged his bike.
"Even after doing all this, if we had given a complaint against the officer, it would have become a big issue. But we didn't initially give a police complaint and returned, thinking let it go....this is a small issue. But now they (the officer and his wife) have made this a big issue and are troubling my son. I want justice for my son," she added.
Based on a complaint lodged by the officer's wife, Squadron Leader Madhumita Dutta, a case was registered at the Byappanahalli police station against unknown individuals, police said, following which Kumar was arrested in the case.
DCP said, "An altercation took place between them. Both attacked each other. Around 6 am on Monday, the Air Force officer was heading from his DRDO quarters to Kempegowda International Airport. His wife was driving, and he was seated beside her." Analysis of CCTV footage from the area and videos recorded by bystanders showed that both parties could have avoided the conflict, he added.
"When they came to the police station, he was advised by the SHO to get first aid, as he was bleeding, and then return to file the FIR. But since he was getting late, he left for the airport. Once he went live on social media, we found out. We then traced Madhumita's details and approached the DRDO quarters. She came to the station and lodged a complaint. We have registered an FIR under (section dealing with) grievous hurt," he said.
During questioning, Vikas Kumar claimed that he was passing by when the woman allegedly made a remark and he asked, "What are you talking about?" and then approached the IAF officer to ask, "What is Madam saying?".
"We have a lot of video evidence and will proceed with the investigation," the DCP said.&nbsp;

Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a two-day visit to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, accepting an invitation from Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom, Mohammed bin Salman.&nbsp;
The visit, scheduled from April 22 to 23, marks a continuation of India&rsquo;s growing engagement with the Gulf region under Modi&rsquo;s leadership.
Since taking office in 2014, PM Modi has significantly deepened India's relationships with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations. This trip represents his third to Saudi Arabia&mdash;following earlier visits in 2016 and 2019&mdash;and his 15th to the Gulf region overall.&nbsp;
In comparison, all previous Indian Prime Ministers combined visited Saudi Arabia only three times over the past seventy years.
&ldquo;Today, I embark on a two-day State visit to the Kingdom of Saudi at the invitation of Crown Prince and Prime Minister, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman,&rdquo; PM Modi said in his pre-departure statement.

Highlighting the importance of the visit, PM Modi said he is looking forward to participating in the second meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council. &ldquo;This will be my third visit to Saudi Arabia over the past decade and a first one to the historic city of Jeddah. I look forward to participating in the second Meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council and build upon the highly successful State visit of my brother His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman to India in 2023,&rdquo; he said.
He also emphasized the significance of the Indian diaspora in Saudi Arabia, saying, &ldquo;I am also eager to connect with the vibrant Indian community in Saudi Arabia that continues to serve as the living bridge between our nations and making immense contribution to strengthening the cultural and human ties.&rdquo;
During his stay, PM Modi is expected to visit a facility employing Indian workers and engage with them directly.
In a special press briefing on Saturday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that the visit would be an important platform to address major regional and global concerns&mdash;including the evolving situation in West Asia, the Israel-Palestine conflict, and the maritime security challenges posed by Houthi attacks.
