After he posted a series of cryptic social media posts, singer-turned-BJP leader Babul Supriyo on Saturday confirmed he was quitting politics in a Facebook post.

The two time Bengal MP wrote that he is not joining any other party and he is not in touch with any other political party. Supriyo wrote had has stayed for too long and in his stint has helped some and disappointed others.

The two-time member of Parliament was among the 12 BJP ministers who were dropped from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet on July 7.

Supriyo's fate was likely sealed when he lost to the Trinamool Congress’s Aroop Biswas in the April-May West Bengal assembly elections.
