Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has shared the teaser of his upcoming film ‘Chamkila’, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra. The movie explores the life of Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila.
The singer and his wife Amarjot were killed, along with two members of their band on 8 March 1988, in an assassination that remains unresolved.
Netflix shared the teaser with the caption: 'Jo naam saalon se aapke dil aur dimaag pe chaaya hai woh ab aapke saamne aaya hai (the name which ruled your hearts and minds is all set to come in front of you). Watch the untold story of Punjab’s highest record-selling artist, Amar Singh #Chamkila, coming soon only on Netflix!'
People from the Punjabi music industry have praised the teaser but a few have objected to the use of Hindi instead of Punjabi in the film.
Some of Diljit's fans also expressed their disappointment at seeing the actor without the turban.
The shoot of ‘Chamkila’ was completed in March this year. Parineeti had shared the news on her Instagram Stories. She wrote, ‘Imtiaz Sir, Diljit, Team Chamkila…My life remains forever changed…the most heavenly crew and experience. Peace, happiness, meditation, Punjab…Will never, ever forget this.’
The movie will release on Netflix in 2024.
