'Chandu Champion': Meet Murlikant Petkar, India's first Paralympic gold medalist, played by Kartik Aaryan

It is 'Chandu Champion' day! Fans are excited to meet Kartik Aaryan as Murlikant Petkar in 'Chandu Champion'. Right from the film's announcement to Kartik revealing how he lost kilos and gave up junk food for a year, the movie has been in the news. 

The film tells the tale of an extraordinary man who refused to give up. The Kabir Khan biopic is on India’s first Paralympic gold medalist, Murlikant Petkar. Here is all you need to know about the role played by Kartik in the film.

Who is Murlikant Petkar?

Kartik Aaryan's 'Chandu Champion' tells the tale of India’s first Paralympic gold medalist, Murlikant Petkar. Born on November 1, 1944, in the Peth Islampur area of Sangli, Maharashtra, Petkar is a war hero and India’s first Paralympic gold medalist. He won four medals in swimming. He was later employed by TELCO in Pune. 

Murlikant was a jawan in the rank of craftsman in the Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) Corps of the Indian Army. He was also a boxer at EME in Secunderabad. 

He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2018.

The film has been written and directed by Kabir Khan and is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. The movie has been shot in London, Wai, Jammu, and Kashmir. It is slated to release in theatres on 14th June 2024.
