Actor Gulshan Grover watched the Netflix series ‘Heeramandi’ with one of its leading stars, Manisha Koirala. The series, which marked Sanjay Leela Bhansali's web series debut, was released on May 1, with Manisha playing the role of the courtesan Mallikajaan.
Taking to X, Gulshan shared a picture and a video of the family cheering for her. He wrote, ‘Watched #Heeramandi at my dear friend Manisha Koirala’s @mkoirala home with friends. Manisha you are FABULOUS & a BADGIRL ! Son Sanjay & me wishing super success to everyone’. He was joined by ‘Saudagar’ actor Vivek Mushran.
‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ features Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Sehgal, and Sanjeeda Sheikh as tawaifs. Fardeen Khan, Taha Shah Badussha, Shekhar Suman, and Adhyayan Suman play the Nawabs. The series explores the lives of courtesans and their clients during the Indian Independence struggle in the 1940s, set against the backdrop of Heera Mandi.
In an interview with India Today, Manisha spoke about how her character affected her.
Manisha said, ‘When I’m given such a great project, with such a legendary director where everything is perfect and top of the line, my heart and soul, my mind, my everything, I need to be consumed by it. With ‘Heeramandi’, I didn’t know Mallika Jaan in my personal life, so I needed to give life to Sanjay’s imagination of what Mallika Jaan is like. I needed to navigate through and discover the character along the process. When you are giving 200 per cent of yourself to something, it consumes you.’
‘It took me days to come out of it. It was not easy, and it is not easy to be in that mindset, come home from set and leave. I can’t do it anymore. So many times, I have had my head buzzing even after the shot is done. My heart has been full and so, I would go into a quiet zone and be in my space,’ the actor added.
