A celebratory Instagram post by BTS leader RM, Kim Namjoon, promoting his solo album ‘Right Place Wrong Person’ unexpectedly sparked controversy.
The news was met with backlash due to its timing, as it came a day after fellow band member Suga was involved in a scandal for drunk driving an electric scooter. Suga has since apologized, claiming ignorance of the regulations.
On August 6, Suga (Min Yoongi), currently serving in the public sector, was caught drunk driving an electric scooter and is now under police investigation. The next day, BTS' RM shared a celebratory Instagram post about his second solo album reaching #7 on ‘The Genius Community’s 25 Best Albums of 2024 So Far.’
This post was reportedly a reshare from another producer, JNKRYD, similar to what RM shared the day before. However, within minutes, the BTS leader took down the post. Many criticized him for being insensitive, suggesting he was downplaying the severity of the situation. ‘He never really cared and always posted whatever he wanted,’ one social media user wrote. ‘How insensitive,’ another quipped. ‘Why at this timing, of all times?’ another added.
While some fans criticized the leader, many defended RM, noting that his military service limits access to mobile devices, so he may not have been aware of the news. ‘He might not have known because he's in the military. He quickly deleted the post,‘ one commented. ‘How cruel of you guys for bashing him when he didn’t know,’ another said. ‘Did RM do something wrong? Why are people reacting like this to him? It’s absurd. If you want to criticize, direct it at the person who caused the incident,’ another added.
Suga’s DUI incident
On August 6th, a startling incident involving Suga came to light. CCTV footage showed him riding an electric scooter home when he fell while trying to park. A nearby police officer who came to assist noticed the smell of alcohol on Suga. Tests later revealed that his blood alcohol content was above the legal limit for driving, leading to his arrest. He was taken to a local police station. Suga has since issued a public apology for his actions.
