India logged a whopping 1 lakh and 17 thousand new Covid cases in 24 hours, govt data showed on Friday morning. This is a 28% jump from over 90,000 cases recorded on Thursday.
India has breached the 1 lakh mark on daily Covid cases after 7 months as the country grapples with the third wave of coronavirus fuelled by the new, more infectious Omicron variant. India had last seen 1 lakh plus infections in a day on June 6, 2021 when the second wave had started to wane.

India has seen Covid cases spiral from about 10,000 a day to over 1 lakh in just 8 days.
The country also recorded 302 deaths due to Covid in a day. The positivity rate has now zoomed to 7.4%. Active cases have also spiralled past 3.7 lakh.
Meanwhile, the cases of the new Omicron variant have crossed 3,000 in the country with infections being detected in 27 states and union territories, govt data showed on Friday morning.
