The Patiala House Court in Delhi has taken cognizance of the chargesheet filed by the Delhi Police in the 2016 JNU sedition case.

The court has summoned all the 10 accused in the case, including Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya and former JNU Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar, and has directed them to remain present before the Court on March 15.

In February 2020, the Delhi Government granted sanction to prosecute persons accused of sedition for raising anti-national slogans during the 2016 protest march. Court had earlier rejected the police chargesheet citing lack of requisite sanction from the state govt.
