Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray has directed his administration to draw a roadmap for a potential lockdown in the state in the wake of a sharp rise.

However, the CM's lockdown plans have faced stiff opposition from his allies as well as the BJP. The NCP, BJP and even industrialist, Anand Mahindra raised objections.

NCP leader Nawab Malik said the satte can't afford another lockdown, while BJP state president Chandrakant Patil said a stringent lockdown would be calamitous for lakhs of people in the unorganised sector.

In a meeting with the Covid task force on Sunday, the CM said a Standard Operating Procedure must be kept ready to guide the state in the event of another lockdown.
