A delegation of Trinamool Congress lawmakers met President Ram Nath Kovind in Delhi on Monday to seek the removal of Tushar Mehta as the Solicitor General of India. This comes after alleged meeting of BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari with Tushar Mehta.

Addressing a press conference after meeting the President, TMC MP Mahua Moitra said a ‘certain BJP leader, MLA and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in West Bengal Assembly met with Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence and then proceeded to the home of the Solicitor-General at 10 Akbar Road on July 1. TMC accused Mehta of vioalting Bar Council’s rules and professional ethics.

TMC had earlier written a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his removal, stating that the alleged meeting between Adhikari and the law officer "reeks of impropriety"
