Congress as well as Women rights activists on Wednesday criticised Uttarakhand chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat for saying ‘wearing ripped jeans is not Indian culture but aping of the West’.

Condemning the ‘race towards westernisation’, Rawat said ‘ripped jeans pave the way for societal breakdown and is a bad example parents set for children’.

Women’s rights activists have said nobody has the right to speak about one’s attire and that it is just a sign of patriarchal mindset.
