With the NCRB stating that Rajasthan had the highest number of rape cases in India in 2021, the state's police force has jumped to defend the law and order situation.

Rajasthan police ascribed the high number of rape cases to false allegations, and mandatory registration of FIRs. In Rajasthan, 48% rape cases have turned out to be false, according to Additional Director General of Police (Crime) Ravi Prakash Mehrada.

He added that a policy of "uninterrupted registration of FIRs" has been adopted, and a comfortable environment is provided to victims at women's helpdesks. Rajasthan police added that the average time taken for the investigation of cases related to atrocities on women has also reduced.

Recently, the National Crime Records Bureau said that Rajasthan saw a 19% increase in rape cases from 2020 to 2021.

The Opposition BJP attacked the Congress government led by Ashok Gehlot over the statistics. BJP said that Gehlot was busy protecting his CM throne, instead of maintaining law and order.
