'Gangster' Mukhtar Ansari found guilty of killing Congress leader Awadhesh Rai in 1991

Alleged gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari was convicted in a 32-year-old murder case on June 5, 2023.

Ansari has been found guilty of murdering Congress leader Awadhesh Rai in 1991. The judgment was pronounced by a Varanasi MP-MLA court, with the quantum of the sentence pending.

Awadhesh Rai, brother of former MLA Ajay Rai, was shot dead outside Ajay Rai's residence on August 3, 1991.

Ansari is already serving a 10-year jail term in another kidnapping and murder case.
