&ldquo;The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to providing all possible support to NGOs working for the welfare of the underprivileged and differently-abled in the state.&rdquo;
This was stated by Punjab Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment, Minorities, Social Security, and Women and Child Development, Dr. Baljit Kaur, while addressing the 58th Foundation Day function of the Society for Welfare of Handicapped at the Deaf and Blind School in Saifdipur village today.&nbsp;
Dr. Baljit Kaur lauded the dedicated efforts of the Society in empowering children who are unable to speak, hear, or see and helping them integrate into the mainstream of society.
She announced a financial grant of Rs. 5 lakh for the development of school infrastructure, emphasizing the government&rsquo;s support for such meaningful initiatives.
&ldquo;The government is taking along every section of society to build a Rangla Punjab,&rdquo; she said, adding that while there may be some gaps, organizations like these fill them with selfless service and dedication.
Dr. Baljit Kaur also shared her personal experiences of treating eye ailments in Muktsar and called upon the public to pledge to donate their eyes.
Drawing inspiration from Helen Keller, she praised the teachers of the Deaf and Blind School and said, &ldquo;These children are not disabled-they are gifted, and they are already influencing society with their talent.&rdquo;
The event featured captivating performances by students of Patiala School for the Deaf, School for the Blind, and Patiala School for the Deaf-Blind.
Cabinet Minister commended the students and remarked that they are not lacking in any ability but are masters of unique art forms, and nothing can stop them from achieving success.
Colonel Karminder Singh, Secretary of the Society, informed that over 450 differently-abled students from 13 states, including Punjab, are studying in the school, which has been providing free education for the past 58 years. &ldquo;Empowering these children is both a challenge and a mission,&rdquo; he said.
The event was attended by ADC (G) Isha Singal, Pawan Goyal, Brigadier R.S. Mann, Jagjit Sarin, Roop Kamboj, S.K. Kochhar, Baba Gurnam Singh, Shiv Dutt (UK), Deaf School Principal Renu Singla, Blind School Principal Kavita, and a large gathering of students, teachers, parents, and other personalities.

Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO on Wednesday said that Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) is fully prepared &nbsp;to meet the demand and supply of power for upcoming paddy season.
Holding a high-level meeting with PSPCL CMD Mr. Ajoy Sinha and all the Directors and Chief Engineers here, Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO stated requisite preparations had been made to ensure regular supply of power to consumers.
The Minister pointed out that about 17 thousand MW of power would be required during the paddy season for &nbsp;which PSPCL had made advance arrangements. Besides this, uninterrupted supply of power will also be ensured for domestic consumers in the season across the state, he added.
Sardar Harbhajan Singh ETO said that Punjab government led by Chief Minister Sardar Bhagwant Singh Mann had provided uninterrupted supply to the consumers of the state in the last three years. He mentioned same practice would be ensured this season too this facilitating consumers with regular supply in the summer.
During the meeting, the Cabinet Minister directed the Powercom officials to carry out a survey of Bathinda Thermal Plant and Guru Amardas Thermal Plant (earlier known as GVK Thermal Plant) ,apart from this he also directed to to explore the possibilities of setting up solar power plants on the surplus land lying with the Corporation. He also directed the officials that there should be no &nbsp;overloaded transformer across the state to avert any interruption.
Sardar Harbhajan Singh ETO instructed the officers to also start preparations for meeting the demand of electricity generated in the state during the next 10 years so as to &nbsp;put all
arrangements in place well in advance. He also directed to prepare a policy regarding transfers of PSPCL employees.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will lead Group of Ministers (GOM) to oversee the smooth conduct of events to commemorate 350th martyrdom day of ninth Guru Sri Guru Teg Bahadur ji in a befitting manner.
A decision to this regard was held in a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister at the official residence on Wednesday.
Chairing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that Sri Guru Teg Bahadur ji laid down his life to protect the right of freedom to worship and preserve human and secular values.
He said that Guru ji&rsquo;s supreme sacrifice was unique and unparalleled in the history of mankind and symbolized the crusade against tyranny and oppression. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the ninth guru of Sikhs sacrificed his life for the sake of preserving human rights in the country.&nbsp;
The Chief Minister said that the state government is duty bound to organise series of events to observe the 350th martyrdom day of ninth Sikh Guru Sri Guru Teg Bahadur ji on a massive level. He said that a series of functions will be organised across the state and comprehensive development of places having the footsteps of the Guru Sahib will be ensured.
Bhagwant Singh Mann said that a GoM under his chairmanship with Ministers of Tourism and Cultural Affairs,Public Works Department, Information and Public Relations Department and Department of Higher Education as its Members will oversee all the arrangements for these events.
The Chief Minister said that apart from this an Executive Committee (headed by the Chief Secretary) will monitor the commemorative events on daily basis. He said that department of Sports, Higher Education, Tourism and culture, Information and Public Relations along with others will zealously organise seminars, conferences, kirtan Darbars, light and sound shows, publish books and other to commemorate the event.
Bhagwant Singh Mann said that &nbsp;all out efforts will be made to perpetuate the glorious legacy of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur ji- who was the first proponent of human rights across the globe.&nbsp;
The Chief Minister further said that major push will be given to infrastructure development at 63 places having footprints of Guru Sahib in districts including Roopnagar, Mansa, Bathinda, Patiala, Jalandhar, Sangrur, SBS Nagar, Tarn Taran, Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Barnala, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Amritsar, SAS Nagar and others.&nbsp;
He said that the state government will spruce up these sacred places of immense historical importance. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday vowed to crush forces inimical to Punjab and foil conspiracies to disturb the state&rsquo;s peace, communal harmony, brotherhood and amity.
Addressing a gathering after unfurling the Tricolour on Republic Day at the local polo ground, Mann said Punjab was the land of gurus, saints, seers and martyrs and had always been a torchbearer for brotherhood and communal harmony.
Maintaining the state&rsquo;s hard-earned peace is the first and foremost priority for the government, Mann said and added no one would be allowed to disturb it.
The chief minister sought support and cooperation of the people to foil any conspiracy to derail peace, progress and prosperity.
He also warned that designs to create communal strife would be nipped in the bud.
The state&rsquo;s social bonding is so strong that any seed can grow on its fertile land but the seed of hatred will never germinate, Mann asserted.
Despite Punjab&rsquo;s limited natural resources, its farmers have put their sweat and toil to make the country self-reliant in food production, he claimed.
In a sombre reminder of the horrors of Parititon, Mann said lakhs of Punjabis died, rendered homeless, and many more lost their lands and properties.
He also alleged that regressive policies of consecutive central governments forced Punjab to suffer for more than seven decades after Independence.
Referring to the ongoing farmers&rsquo; agitation, Mann said the Centre should accept their demands.
It is unfortunate that the hardworking farmers who made the country self-reliant in food production have been forced to agitate on Republic Day as well, Mann said.
Blaming the Centre&rsquo;s &ldquo;apathetic attitude&rdquo;, Mann said the hands that fed the country had to resort to hunger strike to get their demands fulfilled.
The plight of farmers hurts every Indian who believes in constitutional values, he added.
He also demanded that the Centre should stop its &ldquo;step-motherly treatment&rdquo; towards Punjab and its hard working people.
Mann alleged that rural development fund of about Rs 5,500 crore had been withheld by the Centre without assigning any reason, and demanded that the amount be released.
&ldquo;Many times, we have to approach the courts to seek Punjab&rsquo;s right from the Centre,&rdquo; Mann said. &ldquo;But I want to make it clear that Punjabis have never bowed and Punjabis will have their rights.&rdquo; The chief minister said the ethos of the democratic republic had been strengthened with every passing day during the past 75 years as the country&rsquo;s people displayed unflinching faith in democratic norms.
Indians, especially Punjabis, have thwarted every attempt to endanger the country&rsquo;s hard-earned sovereignty, he added.
Apart from safeguarding the country during several wars, brave patriots have made supreme sacrifices to protect the nation&rsquo;s dignity and sovereignty, Mann said.
It is a matter of pride and satisfaction that Punjabis have inherited an indomitable spirit of self-sacrifice and patriotism from Sikh gurus, who &ldquo;taught us to fight against oppression, tyranny and injustice&rdquo;, the chief minister said.
Besides being a land of watershed movements of the Indian freedom struggle, Punjab produced sons-of-the-soil such as Lala Lajpat Rai, Diwan Singh Kalepani and others who laid down their lives to emancipate the country from the clutches of British imperialism, Mann said.
The heroic deeds of Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, Sukhdev Thapar, Udham Singh and Kartar Singh Sarabha gave new vigour to the national freedom struggle by inspiring the younger generations to rise against the British, he added.
Mann said since he assumed charge in March 2022, he had been working closely with the ideals of Bhagat Singh and BR Ambedkar to ensure everyone&rsquo;s wellbeing.
He also touched upon several initiatives taken by the AAP government, including in the fields of health care, education, agriculture and industry, and the steps taken for the welfare of the poor and the common public.
The state dispensation has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, Mann said and added 50,000 government jobs had been provided to the youth.
Mann said the state government also decided to recruit 10,000 new police personnel, a notification for which had already been issued.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday warned the leaders of opposition parties to refrain from indulging in politics of threat and terror as people will never tolerate their divisive and mischievous attitude. The Chief Minister said that a senior leader of the Congress party had on Sunday given a baseless and irrational statement that 50 bombs have been sneaked into the state out of which 18 had exploded and 32 more are still there. He said that this illogical statement was solely aimed at terrorizing the people and creating panic amongst their minds. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this is intolerable, unwarranted and undesirable as the people of state will never forgive such leaders. The Chief Minister said that neither state nor central agencies have any input in this regard but the Congress leader has made this false and irrelevant statement. He said that Punjab is witnessing a major revolution in the field of education and these schools, equipped with ultra modern technology, are a reflection of that. The Chief Minister said that this initiative of the state government will ensure access of students especially from poor and underprivileged sections to the quality education.

The Chief Minister said that it is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction that for the first time in the history of the state Punjab has got a Finance Minister from weaker and underprivileged sections of the society.
He said that earlier this post was reserved for affluent leaders who were known as &lsquo;Kaka ji&rsquo; in common parlance.

Meanwhile, exhorting the girls to come forward and empower themselves through education, the Chief Minister said that the state government is leaving no stone unturned for it.
He said that nowadays girls have outnumbered boys in every field including those which were hitherto considered as fiefdom of the men.
Bhagwant Singh Mann said that women&rsquo;s empowerment is imperative to carve out an egalitarian society and in the larger interest of society and state.

Harjot Singh Bains today inaugurated developed infrastructure projects worth over Rs 84 lakh in ten schools of Sri Anandpur Sahib Constituency as a part of &ldquo;Sikhya Kranti&rdquo; initiative.

Chandigarh, April 15: In a major stride toward its goal of eliminating tuberculosis (TB) as desired by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh flagged off an advanced van equipped with handheld X-ray machine and fluorescent microscope from Directorate of Health and Family Welfare here on Tuesday.

Notably, the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, in collaboration with the People-to-People Health Foundation has donated two handheld X-ray machines and two fluorescent microscopes to the Punjab Health Department.
While expressing gratitude to the IOCL, Dr Balbir Singh said that these machines will strengthen diagnostic capabilities in Sangrur and Malerkotla districts.
Underlining the need of early detection, Dr Balbir Singh said that, in Punjab, the 2020-21 survey revealed a prevalence-notification ratio of 2.8:1, underscoring the critical need for enhanced screening efforts.
Notably, the survey also found that over 40% of notified cases were asymptomatic and detected through X-ray findings, emphasizing the vital role of this diagnostic tool.
Recognizing the limitations of traditional fixed X-ray machines in reaching underserved populations, Punjab has embraced innovative solutions like handheld X-ray technology. Highlighting the importance of these machines, the Health Minister said that these compact and portable devices proved their effectiveness during the recent 100-day intensified TB campaign, where approximately 1.49 lakh X-rays were conducted in the field.
The addition of these two new handheld units, alongside two fluorescent microscopes also provided by IOCL, will empower healthcare workers in Sangrur and Malerkotla to conduct wider screenings and facilitate early diagnosis and treatment initiation among vulnerable communities.
"We are immensely grateful to IOCL and the People-to-People Health Foundation for their invaluable support in our mission to eliminate TB from Punjab," said Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh during the flagging-off ceremony.
"These handheld X-ray machines represent a significant leap forward in our diagnostic capacity. Their portability will allow us to reach individuals in remote areas, work places like factories and congregation settings like old age homes, orphanages etc ensuring that more cases are detected early, leading to better treatment outcomes and ultimately saving lives.
&rdquo; The Health Minister emphasised the importance of public-private partnerships in tackling the TB crisis and lauded IOCL's commitment to this crucial public health issue.
He expressed confidence that these new resources would be effectively utilized to screen a larger population in Sangrur and Malerkotla, bringing the state closer to its TB elimination goals.
The Health Minister also acknowledged the potential of Artificial Intelligence in augmenting X-ray diagnostics, as recommended by the WHO, for faster and more accurate results. MD NHM Ghanshyam Thori, Director Health and Family Welfare Dr Hitinder Kaur, Director Health Services(Family Welfare) Dr Jasminder, Director (ESI) Dr Jaspreet Kaur and State TB Officer Dr Rajesh Bhaskar were also present on the occasion.

Chandigarh, April 15:&nbsp; In order to streamline public services and eliminate any kind of corruption within the Revenue Department, Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuseday announced a series of transformative measures including clearing all pending cases regarding attestation of uncontested mutations, copying service, issuance of income certificate and inspection of Revenue records beyond the stipulated timelines on a campaign basis by April 30, 2025.
Addressing a press conference held here at Punjab Bhawan, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, accompanied by Revenue Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian and Additional Chief Secretary-cum-Financial Commissioner Revenue Anurag Verma, revealed that the Revenue Department has received 8,42,362 applications regarding attestation of uncontested mutations, 31,164 regarding copying service, 5,33,054 regarding issuance of income certificate and 1,73,149 regarding inspection of Revenue records during last one year out of which 26658, 17400, 4362 and 2123 were pending respectively beyond the stipulated timelines.
&nbsp;
He said that all these pending cases would be resolved by April 30. Announcing to reduce the stipulated time for attestation of uncontested mutations from 45 to 30 days from May1, 2025, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced that the Deputy Commissioners will now monitor the pendency of overdue cases on a daily basis, ensuring regular oversight of pending applications.
He said that the stipulated timeline for the copying service is 10 days, for the income certificate is 15 days, and for inspection of Revenue records is 7 days.

The Finance Minister further added that the accountability of the concerned government official or employee of the Revenue Department has been fixed to deliver services as per stipulated timelines and in case of any undue delay strict action would be taken against them under the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government's zero-tolerance policy towards inefficiency and corruption.
Highlighting the online module allowing citizens to submit requests for Mutations directly through the Revenue Department's website, www.jamabandi.punjab.gov.in., Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that this digital approach aims to simplify procedures and reduce reliance on physical visits to government offices, enhancing efficiency and accountability.
He said that the earlier cumbersome process of obtaining Mutations often required individuals to navigate through multiple layers of bureaucracy involving Patwaris, Kaungoes, and Tehsildars. He said that this not only leaded to undue harassment but also opened avenues for corrupt practices.
&ldquo;Similarly, services such as Copying Service, Income Certificate issuance, and Inspection of Revenue Records, though available through Sewa Kendras, were plagued by inefficiencies, forcing citizens to visit various offices like DC offices, Tehsils, and Municipal Committees after submitting their applications&rdquo;, he added.
Reiterating Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government&rsquo;s unwavering commitment to improving governance and enhancing the quality of public services, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that this initiative would eliminate corruption, deliver services within fixed timelines, and ensure that citizens are not subjected to unnecessary harassment when visiting government offices.

During the meeting, which included Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Buddhi Raj Singh and officials from the departments of Food and Civil Supplies, Health, Social Security, and Education, the Chairman stated that while the Commission is committed to providing quality food to the people of the state, special focus is being given to children&rsquo;s health. The Chairman stressed the need to develop nutrition gardens at Anganwadi centers in the district to ensure that children receive food rich in essential nutrients. He also instructed officials from the School Education Department to ensure that vacant areas in schools are used to grow fruits, vegetables, as well as herbal and medicinal plants. This will help provide fresh and nutritious food to children. While reviewing the mid-day meal program, Mr. Sharma emphasized providing high-quality and nutritious food to children. He said proper storage of rations, cleanliness during food preparation, and hygiene must be ensured. He also said that food coming to Anganwadi centers for beneficiaries and the mid-day meal ration in schools must be stored properly. In addition, he instructed that cooks, helpers, and other staff should be given formal training on hygiene and standards. He stressed the importance of coordination between the Health Department and the School Education Department for this purpose. The Chairman also reviewed the health check-up programs in schools and instructed that proper records be maintained. He said that a bright future for children can be secured through nutritional security. The Additional Deputy Commissioner shared that 1,30,683 students in the district are currently benefiting from the mid-day meal scheme, and all government schools have kitchen sheds, gas connections, gas stoves, and fire extinguishers. He also stated that in Shahkot, which is an aspirational block, nutrition gardens have been developed in 30 Anganwadi centers.

The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Mr. Lal Chand Kataruchak today said that Punjab has witnessed the bumper crop of wheat this time which would help in achieving the 124 LMT Central pool target with ease.
Taking stock of the Wheat procurement operations at Kharar Mandi, the Minister said that till now 4.19 LMT of wheat has arrived in the mandis of the State and 3.22 LMT has been procured.
Payments worth Rs. 151 Crore have been made into the farmers' accounts.&nbsp;
He further said that as per the directions of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann while payments are being made within 24 hours of the crop procurement, there has been no let up in lifting too.
Divulging more, the Minister pointed out that this time the quality of wheat has been of very high standard and the agencies as well as the Commission Agents have been directed to ensure foolproof arrangements for tarpaulins and crates in order to save the crop from inclement weather. Also, there has been no shortage of bardana.&nbsp;
Elaborating more, he said that the State Government is increasing the storage capacity by 31 LMT and this time, the central agencies would directly lift the 15 LMT crop from mandis itself in the next few days.
The Minister made it clear that the farmers won't have to face any difficulty in the mandis and he is personally reviewing the arrangements as per the directions of the Chief Minister.
He also said that the officers connected with the procurement work have been directed against any laxity so as to make sure that the farmers and arhtiyas don't encounter any hassle in the mandis.
