A private mini-bus carrying nearly 20 passengers to a wedding in Nashik overturned at Kasara Ghat in Maharashtra&rsquo;s Thane district on Sunday morning, leaving ten people injured, police said on Monday.
The accident occurred around 9 am near Chintamanwadi turning when the bus driver lost control of the vehicle, according to Kasara police station inspector Suresh Gavit. The passengers, who were traveling from Mumbai's Cuffe Parade to Sinnar in Nashik, were en route to attend a marriage function.
Of the ten injured, four sustained serious injuries and were shifted to Mumbai&rsquo;s government-run JJ Hospital for advanced treatment. The remaining injured were admitted to private hospitals in Shahapur and other nearby towns.
Police confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
This unfortunate incident underscores the need for safer driving practices, particularly on winding stretches like Kasara Ghat, which are notorious for sharp turns and challenging terrain.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that the state has completed all necessary preparations for the rollout, including approval of the Act&rsquo;s rules and training of officials responsible for its implementation.&nbsp;

Sharing the announcement on X, CM Dhami stated, "Dear residents of the state, The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be implemented in the state from January 27, 2025, making Uttarakhand the first state in independent India where this law will come into effect. All the necessary preparations have been completed to implement UCC, which includes approval of the rules of the Act and training of the concerned officials. UCC will bring uniformity in the society and ensure equal rights and responsibilities for all citizens. Uniform Civil Code is just an offering made by our state in the great yagya being done by the Prime Minister to make the country a developed, organized, harmonious and self-reliant nation. Under the Uniform Civil Code, an attempt has been made to bring uniformity in all laws relating to personal civil matters that discriminate on the basis of caste, religion, sex etc."
In an interaction with ANI, CM Dhami explained that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is fulfilling a key promise made during the 2022 assembly elections. He cited Article 44 of the Indian Constitution, which encourages the government to secure a uniform civil code throughout the country.&nbsp;
&ldquo;During the 2022 assembly election which we contested under the leadership of PM Modi, we promised the people of the state that we will work to implement the UCC after forming the government. We have fulfilled all the formalities and the Act (UCC) is now ready to be implemented. Uttarakhand has become the first state to bring the UCC &ndash; where there will be no discrimination based on gender, caste, or religion &ndash; and we are bringing the UCC mentioned under Article 44 of the Constitution on January 27,&rdquo; CM Dhami said.
The Uttarakhand Uniform Civil Code Act, 2024, establishes a standardized framework for personal civil laws, including marriage, divorce, succession, and inheritance.&nbsp;
The Act applies to all residents of Uttarakhand, including those living outside the state, but excludes Scheduled Tribes and communities protected by empowered authorities.
Under the new provisions, marriages can only occur if neither party has a living spouse, both individuals are mentally capable of consent, the man is at least 21 years old, and the woman is at least 18.&nbsp;
Marriages can be solemnized according to religious customs or legal provisions but must be registered within 60 days of the Act's implementation. For marriages solemnized before March 26, 2010, or outside Uttarakhand, registration is optional but recommended and must be completed within six months of the Act coming into force if both parties meet the legal criteria.
The government has also set guidelines for prompt processing of marriage registrations, with sub-registrars required to issue decisions within 15 days of receiving applications. The move aims to simplify and standardize legal procedures, ensuring equitable treatment under personal laws.

"Delhi's mandate also clarified that there is no place for shortcuts or lies and deception in politics. BJP has won 48 seats, while AAP has won just 22 seats against 62 in the 2020 assembly polls.

. Lashing out at AAP, he said, "The real owner of Delhi is only the people of Delhi. Those who thought of being the owners of Delhi have been confronted with the truth."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Anna Hazare must have got some relief from pain following AAP's defeat in the Delhi Assembly election. He added that Hazare had been "bearing the pain of the misdeeds of these people for a long time."
Earlier in the day, Anna Hazare had criticised AAP for their alleged involvement in controversies surrounding liquor and money.
PM Modi said AAP was born out of the movement against corruption but became deeply involved in it.
"The party born out of the movement against corruption got involved in corruption. It became such a party of the country whose Chief Minister and Ministers went to jail on corruption charges. Those who used to give themselves certificates of honesty turned out to be corrupt. This was a big betrayal with Delhi," PM Modi said.

Targeting AAP leaders, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, PM Modi said that those who gave certificates to others are now facing allegations of corruption.
The BJP has also been taking "Sheeshmahal" jibes at Kejriwal. In his speech, PM Modi thanked the people of Delhi for their support and reiterated their relief at making the national capital "AAP-da free."

"At one point in time, the law and order problem remained in Uttar Pradesh. The major challenge was for women. Dimaagi bukhaar (encephalitis) wreaked havoc. However, we worked with determination to resolve it," PM Modi said.
He further emphasized the transformation under NDA rule in states like Maharashtra, Haryana, Gujarat, and Bihar, asserting that "good governance benefits the poor and the middle class. The poor living in jhuggis and the middle class provided immense support to the BJP."

The INDIA bloc faces internal conflicts as Congress and AAP rivalry deepens, leading to BJP's continued dominance in national politics. The alliance struggles to maintain unity ahead of key state elections.

Just eight months after its good showing in the Lok Sabha polls, the INDIA bloc seems to be running out of steam with internal bickering and conflicting ambitions resulting in diminishing electoral returns that have once again put the BJP in the driver's seat in national politics.
With the defeat of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi, the number of INDIA bloc governments in the country has come down to eight -- Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
The INDIA bloc was formed in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls with parties, often at loggerheads with each other in states, coming together with the sole objective of defeating the BJP that seemed primed to better its previous tallies in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
They may have not managed to stop the BJP from coming to power but preventing the saffron party from getting a majority on its own was no mean feat.
The INDIA bloc parties had repeatedly insisted that the alliance was for national polls and later it would be on a state-by-state basis. However, it had not envisioned that the electoral fights in the states could get nasty, leading to cracks in the overall alliance. The Delhi polls have been a case in point.

The Congress, the largest constituent of the INDIA bloc, ran a high-decibel campaign against AAP, leading to a lot of bad blood between the two parties.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a no-holds-barred attack on AAP and its convener Arvind Kejriwal with jibes like "architect of the liquor scam" and "sheesh mahal" being a regular feature in their campaign speeches.
The INDIA bloc parties such as the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC), though not having stakes in Delhi, threw their weight behind AAP on the grounds that it was best-suited to take on the BJP.
The distance between the Congress and smaller constituents of the INDIA bloc is growing as we saw in the Haryana polls when the Congress and AAP failed to strike an alliance and in Delhi where the two parties took on each other.
Though the INDIA bloc seems to be intact for the Bihar polls, the West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh elections in the coming years would test the alliance again as all constituents would find it difficult to come together.
The unease in the bloc and the consequences of bickering were being felt with many leaders voicing their disappointment with the result.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah passed a snide remark on the opposition parties over the Delhi assembly polls.

Expressing strong disappointment, the CPI(M) and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) said the differences in the INDIA bloc paved the way for the saffron party's good show in the national capital.
The Marxist party vehemently attacked the Congress and accused them of facilitating the victory of the BJP in Delhi.
The IUML, however, opted not to directly criticise the grand-old party but made it clear that if the partners of the INDIA bloc had fought the election unitedly, they could have successfully resisted the saffron party from coming to power.
Senior CPI(M) leader and the convener of the ruling LDF, T P Ramakrishnan, alleged that the Congress did not support well for the effective functioning of the INDIA block.
"There was no support from the side of the Congress. If the party had taken the initiative, the alliance could have functioned more effectively. But the grand old party did not fulfil its responsibility," he said.
Accusing the Congress, he said the party did not adopt a favourable stand in taking the INDIA bloc together and united.
Reacting to the BJP's victory in the Delhi polls, veteran IUML leader P K Kunhalikutty said it would not have happened if the partners in the INDIA bloc stood united.
Had everyone in the alliance stood together, the result would have been different, Kunhalikutty said.
Asked whether it was the Congress that was the reason for the lack of unity in the opposition alliance, the IUML veteran said there was no point in blaming a single party for the poll outcome.
"Everyone in the alliance should discuss this matter and evaluate the poll results," he said, adding that immediate steps should be taken not to repeat such things in future.
The future of the bloc seems uncertain with the Congress and AAP still not willing to reconcile their differences.
The Congress said the results of the Delhi Assembly election are not a vindication of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's policies but a referendum on Arvind Kejriwal and AAP.

If the INDIA bloc has to bounce back, it needs to set aside personal differences and ambitions and show the cohesiveness and understanding that was seen in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls. Till it does not do that, it is BJP firmly in the saddle.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely monitoring the situation at the MahaKumbh following a stampede-like incident early in the morning.&nbsp;
He remains in constant communication with the state government and has spoken with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath three times this morning, providing directives to help normalize the situation and facilitate relief efforts.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also reached out to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the wake of the incident at the Sangam during the Mauni Amavasya celebrations at the Mahakumbh Mela. Shah assured Adityanath of the Centre&rsquo;s full support in handling the situation.
After the Akharas initially called off the Holy Dip for the day, the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, Ravindra Puri, confirmed that the Akharas will now resume their 'snan' today.&nbsp;
He emphasized that they are maintaining continuous communication with the Mela administration. Speaking to ANI, Puri said, "Our snan was postponed in the morning after a massive crowd gathered at the ghats. We tried to postpone our plan. Now that the crowd has reduced and the ghats meant for our snan are being vacated, it seems that all Akharas will be able to do snan today... We all, our all Mahamandaleshwars, Mandaleshwars, Naga Sadhus and devotees, will take a holy dip today..."
Puri further stated that the Akharas would still hold their traditional procession, albeit on a smaller scale. He also mentioned that the holy dip could take place even at night. "Our processions will be carried out as usual according to our tradition but will be on a smaller scale... We are in regular contact with the Mela administration... We have a lot of time and we are in no hurry. We can do snan even at night, as it is Mauni Amavasya today..." he added.
Following the stampede-like situation at Mahakumbh, the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad attributed the incident to the "spread of misinformation."&nbsp;
He remarked, "In the morning, misinformation was spread to create fear in the minds of people. And they succeeded. In the morning when we talked to everyone, we found that the reality was different and a lot of rumours were spread... I want to urge people to not run towards Sangam and take a dip wherever they find Ganga ji..."
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has urged devotees to take their holy dip at the nearest available ghat instead of converging at a single location.&nbsp;
He posted on X, "Dear devotees, come to Prayagraj. Take a bath at the ghat of Mother Ganga near which you are; do not try to go towards Sangam Nose. All of you should follow the instructions of the administration and cooperate in making arrangements. People are bathing peacefully at all the ghats of Sangam. Do not pay any attention to any rumours."
The incident occurred as an enormous gathering of devotees assembled at the Sangam Ghats for the 'Amrit Snan' on the occasion of 'Mauni Amavasya.'&nbsp;
This event marks the second Shahi Snan and is expected to attract between 80 to 100 million pilgrims. Other significant bathing dates during the Maha Kumbh include February 3 (Basant Panchami&mdash;Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).

She arrived in the national capital early Sunday on a two-and-a-half-day trip in the first high-level visit to India by a top official of the Donald Trump administration.
Gabbard held separate meetings with Prime Minister Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and NSA Ajit Doval.

Singh also apprised Gabbard about SFJ's alleged links with Pakistani spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) as well as its "collaboration" with Babbar Khalsa militant group, and pressed for action against it, they said.

Headley conducted a recce of Mumbai before the attacks by posing as an employee of Rana&rsquo;s immigration consultancy.
Rana was convicted in the US of one count of conspiracy to provide material support to the terrorist plot in Denmark and one count of providing material support to Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Lashker-e-Taiba which was responsible for the attacks in Mumbai.
New York-based Indian-American attorney Ravi Batra told PTI that Rana had made his application to the Supreme Court to prevent extradition, which Justice Kagan denied on March 6.
The application is now before Roberts, &ldquo;who has shared it with the Court to conference so as to harness the entire Court&rsquo;s view.&rdquo;
Batra added that he fully expects &ldquo;that in calmer times CJ Roberts would deny Rana the right to stay in America and avoid facing justice in India."
"During current times, with so many district judges blocking President Trump&rsquo;s domestic agenda changes...the Supreme Court will enjoy denying Rana more easily.&rdquo;
&ldquo;After President Trump and PM (Narendra) Modi met in the Oval, President Trump announced in the press conference that Rana will be extradited to India, to face his victims and his justice. The current posture is akin to a fish out of water, but moving around a lot to try to get back into American waters,&rdquo; Batra said.&nbsp;
Rana is seeking a stay of his extradition and surrender to India pending litigation (including exhaustion of all appeals) on the merits of a petition he filed on February 13.
In that petition, Rana argued that his extradition to India violates United States law and the United Nations Convention Against Torture "because there are substantial grounds for believing that, if extradited to India, the petitioner will be in danger of being subjected to torture."
&ldquo;The likelihood of torture in this case is even higher though as petitioner faces acute risk as a Muslim of Pakistani origin charged in the Mumbai attacks,&rdquo; the application said.
The application also said that his &ldquo;severe medical conditions&rdquo; render extradition to Indian detention facilities a &ldquo;de facto" death sentence in this case.&nbsp;
It cited medical records from July 2024 that confirm Rana has multiple &ldquo;acute and life-threatening diagnoses&rdquo;, including multiple documented heart attacks, Parkinson&rsquo;s disease with cognitive decline, a mass suggestive of bladder cancer, stage 3 chronic kidney disease, and a history of chronic asthma, and multiple COVID-19 infections.&nbsp;
&ldquo;Accordingly, petitioner certainly has raised a credible, if not compelling, factual case that there are indeed substantial grounds for believing he would be in danger of torture if surrendered to Indian authorities.&nbsp;
&ldquo;Further, because of his Muslim religion, his Pakistani origin, his status as a former member of the Pakistani Army, the relation of the putative charges to the 2008 Mumbai attacks, and his chronic health conditions he is even more likely to be tortured than otherwise would be the case, and that torture is very likely to kill him in short order.&rdquo;
The US Supreme Court denied Rana&rsquo;s petition for writ of certiorari relating to his original habeas petition on January 21, 2025.
The application notes that on that same day, newly-confirmed Secretary of State Marco Rubio had met with External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar.
When Prime Minister Modi arrived in Washington on February 12 to meet with Trump, Rana&rsquo;s counsel received a letter from the Department of State, stating that &ldquo;on February 11, 2025, the Secretary of State decided to authorize&rdquo; Rana&rsquo;s "surrender to India,&rdquo; pursuant to the &ldquo;Extradition Treaty between the United States and India&rdquo;.
Rana&rsquo;s Counsel requested from the State Department the complete administrative record on which Secretary Rubio based his decision to authorize Rana&rsquo;s surrender to India.
The Counsel also requested immediate information on any commitment the United States has obtained from India with respect to Rana&rsquo;s treatment.
&ldquo;The government declined to provide any information in response to these requests,&rdquo; the application said.
It added that given Rana&rsquo;s underlying health conditions and the State Department&rsquo;s own findings regarding the treatment of prisoners, it is very likely &ldquo;Rana will not survive long enough to be tried in India.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The issues raised by petitioner merit full and careful consideration, and the stakes are enormous for him. The very least the US courts owe the petitioner is a full chance to litigate these issues, including exercising their appellate rights, before he is consigned to the fate that awaits him at the hands of the Indian government,&rdquo; the application said.
It added that if a stay is not entered, there will be no review at all, and the US courts will lose jurisdiction, and &ldquo;petitioner will soon be dead.
Therefore, we respectfully request that this Court enter an Order staying the extradition and surrender of petitioner pending a full and considered hearing on petitioner&rsquo;s claims by the district court, circuit court, and, if necessary, a writ of certiorari to and further proceedings before this Court.&rdquo;
US President Trump, during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Modi in the White House last month, announced that Rana&rsquo;s extradition to India has been approved.
The Supreme Court justices are Associate Justice Clarence Thomas, Associate Justice &nbsp;Samuel A Alito, Jr, Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Associate Justice Elena Kagan, Associate Justice Neil M Gorsuch, Associate Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh, Associate Justice Amy Coney Barrett, and Associate Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.
A total of 166 people, including six Americans, were killed in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks in which 10 Pakistani terrorists laid a more than 60-hour siege, attacking and killing people at iconic and vital locations in Mumbai.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a historic victory in the Delhi Assembly elections on Saturday, reclaiming power in the national capital after 27 years.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) faced a major defeat, with several key leaders, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, losing in their strongholds.
This win further strengthens the BJP&rsquo;s hold on national politics, following its recent electoral successes in Maharashtra and Haryana.
The Congress, which had hoped for a revival in Delhi, failed to secure a single seat once again, marking its third consecutive zero tally in the assembly elections. The party had previously ruled Delhi for 15 years, from 1998 to 2013.
BJP won 48 out of 70 seats, while AAP secured 22 seats.

In the New Delhi constituency, BJP&rsquo;s Parvesh Verma defeated Kejriwal by over 4,000 votes. Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit received 4,568 votes. Atishi won from Kalkaji, defeating BJP&rsquo;s Ramesh Bidhuri by over 3,500 votes, while Congress&rsquo;s Alka Lamba secured 4,392 votes.

Sisodia lost in Jangpura to BJP&rsquo;s Tarvinder Singh Marwah by a narrow margin of 675 votes. Conceding defeat, he expressed hope that the winning candidate would serve the constituency well.
Among other winners, Gopal Rai secured the Babarpur seat, defeating BJP&rsquo;s Anil Kumar Vashisht by 18,994 votes. Kailash Gahlot, who had switched from AAP to BJP before the elections, won from Bijwasan, defeating AAP&rsquo;s Surender Bhardwaj.
Several BJP leaders also emerged victorious, including Vijender Gupta from Rohini, Kapil Mishra from Karawal Nagar, and Ravinder Singh Negi from Patparganj.

This trip follows an invitation extended by Trump and comes shortly after he began his second term in the White House.
The visit also takes place amid growing criticism of the Indian government's handling of the deportation of 104 Indian immigrants by the U.S. this week, part of Trump&rsquo;s broader immigration policies.
On January 27, Trump had a conversation with Modi, where they discussed immigration issues and highlighted the need for India to increase its purchases of American-made security equipment, as well as promote equitable trade relations between the two nations.
India, a key strategic ally of the U.S. in efforts to counter China's influence, is focused on boosting trade relations and facilitating easier access to skilled worker visas for its citizens. India also seeks to avoid tariffs previously threatened by Trump in response to India&rsquo;s high tariffs on U.S. goods.

PM Modi further noted that this budget is different from previous ones, which mainly focused on filling government coffers.&nbsp;
"Usually the focus of the budget is on how the government treasury will be filled, but this budget is exactly the opposite of that. How will this budget fill the pockets of the citizens of the country, how will the savings of the citizens of the country increase and how will the citizens of the country become partners in development... this budget lays a very strong foundation for this," PM Modi remarked.
The Prime Minister also commended the reforms in the nuclear energy sector, calling the encouragement of the private sector in nuclear energy "historic." He added that this will contribute significantly to the country's development.&nbsp;
"Encouraging the private sector in Nuclear Energy is historic. It will ensure a big contribution of Civil Nuclear Energy in the development of the country," he stated. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of preserving India's heritage, pointing out that the country is progressing with the mantra of "development as well as heritage."&nbsp;
He introduced the "Gyan Bharat Mission" for the preservation of one crore manuscripts. "Today the country is moving ahead with the mantra of 'development as well as heritage'. Very important and concrete steps have been taken for this in this budget," he added.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the granting of infrastructure status to the shipbuilding sector, stressing that it would promote domestic production, support self-reliance, create jobs, and boost tourism.&nbsp;
"The designation of infrastructure status will promote the construction of large ships in the country. Additionally, it will accelerate Atma Nirbhar initiatives. Shipbuilding is a sector that provides significant employment opportunities. Furthermore, the country has vast potential for tourism development," PM Modi said.
Furthermore, PM Modi introduced a new scheme providing loans of up to Rs 2 crore without guarantees to SC, ST, and women entrepreneurs.&nbsp;

Today, we are issuing 15 guarantees, 15 Kejriwal guarantees, which will be fulfilled within the next 5 years."
Kejriwal's first guarantee was focused on employment, promising to provide jobs to every unemployed person in Delhi. "The first guarantee is the guarantee of employment.&nbsp;
According to central government data, Delhi has the lowest unemployment rate. Nationally, unemployment is 6 percent, but in Delhi, it's only 2 percent. But even if there is just one unemployed person, that's still an unemployed person. We want that there is no unemployed person in Delhi," he said.

His second guarantee, the Mahila Samman Yojana, promised Rs 2,100 per month to every woman in Delhi. "The second guarantee is the Mahila Samman Yojana, under which every woman in the national capital will receive Rs 2,100 in her bank account every month. We will implement as soon as the government is formed," Kejriwal affirmed.
In his third guarantee, Kejriwal vowed to provide free medical treatment to elderly citizens. "The third guarantee is the Sanjeevani Yojana, where I want to reassure our elderly citizens (60 years and above) that as long as I am alive, I will ensure they receive the best treatment, whether in a government hospital or a private one. The government of Delhi will bear all the expenses," he said.
Kejriwal's fourth guarantee included waiving off old water bills, and he also pledged to improve Delhi's infrastructure. "Under the fourth guarantee, we will ensure correct water consumption bills. After coming to power, old water bills will be waived. I admit we could not clean Yamuna. In the next five years, we will ensure the cleaning of river Yamuna, 24-hour water in households and make roads of Delhi of European standard," he added.
Further expanding on the guarantees, Kejriwal announced the introduction of the Ambedkar Scholarship scheme for Dalit students, ensuring financial assistance for their education abroad. "The sixth guarantee is the introduction of the Ambedkar Scholarship scheme to cover the cost of education, travel and stay of Dalit students wanting to study in any international university," he said.
He also promised free travel for school and college students on buses and a 50% discount on Delhi Metro, along with honorarium payments of Rs 18,000 per month to temple and gurudwara priests. "Seventh guarantee - Free travel on bus and 50% rebate in Delhi Metro for school/college students in Delhi. We will give honorarium amount of Rs 18,000 per month to temple and gurudwara priests," Kejriwal explained.
For auto-rickshaw, taxi, and e-rickshaw drivers, he promised Rs 1 lakh financial assistance for their daughters&rsquo; weddings and free coaching for their children. Kejriwal also pledged life insurance of Rs 10 lakh and medical insurance worth Rs 5 lakh for their families. "Delhi govt will give Rs one lakh for the wedding of daughters of auto-rickshaw, taxi and e-rickshaw drivers. Their children will be given free coaching. We will also give life insurance worth Rs 10 lakh to them and medical insurance worth Rs 5 lakh for their family members," he said.
In his commitment to ensuring safety and security in Delhi, Kejriwal assured that the Delhi government would fund Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to appoint private security guards, in addition to installing more CCTV cameras and street lights. "It was BJP government's responsibility to ensure law and order in Delhi. We have installed CCTV cameras and street lights at various places. Taking this forward, Delhi govt will give funds to RWAs to appoint private security guards," he said.

Kejriwal also reiterated that his government's previous guarantees such as free electricity, water, education, and healthcare services like Mohalla Clinics would continue. "Our earlier 6 guarantees of free electricity, free water, free education, scheme for free pilgrimage for senior citizens, free bus travel for women and free treatment at Mohalla Clinics will continue as before," he said.
Addressing the political landscape, AAP accused the central government of plotting a "huge conspiracy" to manipulate the Delhi elections through unfair tactics. The party claimed that officials were instructed to remove AAP supporters from the voter list.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday accused the BJP-led Centre and the Delhi Police of conspiring to "kill" its supremo Arvind Kejriwal and urged the Election Commission to restore his security cover provided by the Punjab Police that was withdrawn.
There was no immediate reaction from the BJP or the Delhi Police to the allegation.
Addressing a press conference here, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and her Punjab counterpart, Bhagwant Mann, said they have written to the EC demanding "fair grounds" to the AAP in the February 5 Delhi Assembly polls and the restoration of Kejriwal's security cover given by the Punjab Police, along with an audit of "life-threatening" attacks on him.
They alleged that the Delhi Police, which comes under the Centre, has turned a blind eye on the alleged attacks on Kejriwal in accordance with Union Home Minister Amit Shah's order.
"There are two players involved in this conspiracy to kill Kejriwalji -- the BJP and the Delhi Police. They are both conspiring to end Kejriwal's life. Attacks have been attempted on him one after the other. In October (last year), an attack was made on Kejriwal. Upon investigation by us, it was found that the attackers were BJP workers, but police took no action," Atishi alleged.
"We have written to the EC demanding that Kejriwal's security be restored. We do not trust the Delhi Police as it is under Amit Shah's control," she added.
The AAP leaders alleged that resorting to "dirty politics" ahead of the Delhi polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has conspired to get Kejriwal's security removed.

In her letter, Atishi explained that she had filed complaints regarding the intimidation on January 21 and 22. She attached both complaints to her letter, highlighting that on January 21, she received a notice under Section 94 BNSS from the SHO of Govindpuri concerning her complaint.&nbsp;

However, instead of investigating, she claims that police officers began pressuring AAP volunteers to retract their statements.
&ldquo;Atishi&rsquo;s letter further detailed the actions of the police officers, including SHO Dharamveer, Inspector Sushil Sharma, and Constable Jai Bhagwan, who reportedly tried to coerce volunteers into signing false statements that claimed no intimidation or violence had occurred. These officers allegedly met with volunteers such as Vijeta, Rekha Bassi, and Deepa Deol, dictated false statements to them, and then pressured them to sign," the letter said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that her volunteers were willing to give statements in the presence of their legal representatives, but they were being forced to sign incomplete and false documents.&nbsp;
When the volunteers refused, the police allegedly tore up their objections. Atishi expressed concerns over the collusion of the local police officers and called for their immediate transfer, specifically requesting that SHO Dharamveer, Inspector Sushil Sharma, and Constable Jai Bhagwan be reassigned out of the area.
Earlier this week, Atishi had also called for the deployment of paramilitary forces in Kalkaji to ensure the safety of voters and party workers as the Delhi Assembly elections draw near. The elections are set for February 5, with the vote counting scheduled for February 8, amid escalating tensions between the AAP and BJP.

Explaining the rationale behind the move, Singh remarked that the BJP would not voluntarily talk about their achievements, so AAP decided to showcase it for them.&nbsp;
Taking a swipe at the BJP-led Central government, Singh stated that the book contained everything about the unfulfilled promises made by BJP, including commitments on providing permanent housing, doubling minimum support prices (MSPs) for farmers, strengthening the rupee, and ensuring border security.
&ldquo;Modi ji had made many promises after becoming the Prime Minister. He had said that by 15th August 2022, everyone will get a permanent house, farmers will get MSP, the rupee will be strengthened, the border will be protected... Regarding Delhi, he had said that permanent registry will be given to those living in slums. The BJP people could not tell what achievements have been made in those promises, we are releasing those achievements,&rdquo; Singh said.

Sanjay Singh also criticized BJP leader Anurag Thakur, accusing him of lacking the moral authority to lecture on patriotism. He alleged that BJP leaders had historically supported divisive forces and made questionable decisions.&nbsp;

Portfolios have been assigned to the seven new ministers who took oath on Wednesday in Bihar, as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar reshuffled his Cabinet in preparation for the upcoming Assembly elections.
Health Minister Mangal Pandey has been given additional charge of the Law Department, while Information Technology has been reassigned from Santosh Suman, the son of HAM(S) chief Jitan Ram Manjhi.
Krishna Kumar Mantoo of the BJP will now head the Information Technology Department, while Suman will continue handling Minor Water Resources.
Vijay Mandal, an MLA from Sikti, has been given the Disaster Management Department, whereas Sanjay Saraogi (Darbhanga) has been entrusted with the Revenue and Land Reforms Department. The Land and Revenue Department was previously under state BJP chief Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, who stepped down in adherence to the party&rsquo;s 'one person, one post' policy.
Additionally, Biharsharif MLA Sunil Singh has been appointed as the Forest, Environment, and Climate Change Minister. Sahebganj MLA Raju Singh will oversee the Tourism Department, while Motilal Prasad has been given charge of the Arts and Culture Department.
With this Cabinet expansion, the total number of ministers has reached 36, the maximum limit allowed in Bihar.
All seven newly inducted ministers belong to the BJP, increasing the party&rsquo;s total ministerial strength to 21 in the state. Nitish Kumar&rsquo;s JD(U) has 13 ministers, while Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) has one, along with one independent minister.
The ministers come from regions where the BJP holds a strong political presence, with six out of the seven being from North Bihar. The BJP has also maintained a caste balance in its selections.
While Raju Singh and Jibesh Kumar represent the upper-caste Rajput and Bhumihar communities, Vijay Mandal and Motilal Prasad belong to the Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs). Mantoo hails from Nitish Kumar&rsquo;s Kurmi community, Sunil Kumar is from the Kushwaha community, and Sanjay Saraogi is an OBC leader.

Speaking at the inauguration of BJP district offices in Coimbatore, Tiruvannamalai, and Ramanathapuram, Shah alleged that DMK leaders were involved in various scams.
"In cases of corruption, all the leaders of the DMK hold a master's degree. One of their leaders is embroiled in a cash-for-jobs case, another is involved in money laundering and illegal sand mining, and a third is facing charges related to disproportionate assets," Shah stated.

Dismissing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's claim that the state was denied central funds, Shah countered, "There is no truth in MK Stalin's statement. The Modi government has given Rs 5 lakh crore to Tamil Nadu in the last five years."&nbsp;
He further said that a comparison between funds allocated under the UPA and NDA governments proves that Tamil Nadu faced actual injustice during the UPA regime.
Taking a dig at DMK, Shah remarked, "Sometimes it feels as if DMK has let all the corrupts in the society join DMK through a membership drive. MK Stalin and his son are raising several issues to deviate from real concerns. Today, they are going to have a meeting regarding delimitation. PM Modi has made it clear that even after delimitation, the seats of none of the states in the South will be decreased."
Shah also declared that the BJP will form a government in Tamil Nadu in 2026 under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). He pledged to end corruption, nepotism, and anti-India activities in the state.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to expand his cabinet on Wednesday, ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.&nbsp;
The expansion, scheduled for 4 PM, will see the induction of new ministers from his party, Janata Dal (United), as well as ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), according to ANI. Four MLAs are expected to take ministerial oaths, including two from JD(U).
In a significant development, Bihar Revenue Minister and BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal has announced his resignation, aligning with the party's "One Person, One Post" policy.&nbsp;
Expressing gratitude for his role, Jaiswal stated, "I am going to resign from the post of Revenue Minister. 'One person, one post' is the principle on which the party works. I am thankful that the central leadership has given me the responsibility of the party's state unit."&nbsp;
Jaiswal, who was appointed BJP's Bihar state president on January 18, hinted at further cabinet reshuffling following his resignation, with the expansion set to take place before the elections later this year.
Commenting on the upcoming cabinet expansion, Jaiswal remarked, "It is the prerogative of the Chief Minister."&nbsp;
Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar&rsquo;s son, Nishant Kumar, has urged voters to support his father in the upcoming elections, emphasizing his contributions to Bihar's development.&nbsp;
"I urge the people of Bihar to vote for Bihar CM Nitish Kumar as he has done a lot of development in the state. Last time, people gave 43 seats. The public should ensure that we win more seats in the elections so that we can continue the pace of development," Nishant Kumar said.&nbsp;
He also encouraged JD(U) workers to promote Nitish Kumar&rsquo;s achievements from the past 19 years among the people of Bihar.

The cause of the fire is reported to be a short circuit in an electric transformer installed on the ground floor of the five-storey hostel building.

A massive fire broke out on Sunday morning in a boys' hostel building injuring eight students here with preliminary reports suggesting that the short circuit led to the blaze, police said.
The incident happened at around 6.15 am in Landmark City under Kunhari police station, Superintendent of Police (SP) Kota City Amrita Duhan said.
According to an initial investigation, a short circuit in an electric transformer installed on the ground floor of the five-storey hostel building led to the fire, the police said. The forensic team, however, is trying to ascertain the exact reason for the incident.
Rakesh Vyas, a fire officer at Kota Municipal Corporation, said the hostel building was not equipped with fire safety measures and did not have a fire NOC. He added that it was alarming that the transformer was installed inside the hostel building.
The police said the six injured students, including one who sustained severe burns, are receiving primary medical treatment at Maharao Bheem Singh (MBS) Hospital here.
One student, who suffered a fracture in his leg after he along with 14 others jumped from the building's first floor to escape the fire, is being treated at a private hospital, they added.
Bhavishya, a NEET aspirant from Bihar's Chindwara who lived in the building, was also injured in the incident. He said he was woken up by a loud noise at around 6.15 am and when he came out of his room, he found thick smoke everywhere.
He said the students decided to jump from the first floor as the staircase was filled with smoke and there was no other way out of the building.
The building had 75 rooms of which 61 were occupied, SP Duhan said.
She added that fire tenders rushed to the spot in time and doused the fire before it could spread to the upper floors.
All the students have been rescued from the building, circle inspector at Kunhari police station Arvind Bhardwaj said.
The parents of the students are being contacted to assure them that their wards are safe, he added.
Bhardwaj said that as most students couldn't carry their mobile phones while they were being rescued, a helpdesk is also being set up for the students and their parents.
The matter is being investigated, the CI said.&nbsp;

The CBI has created a dedicated e-mail ID -- sandeshkhali@cbi.gov.in -- on which victims of land grab in Sandeshkhali, a village in West Bengal, can get their complaints lodged, officials said on Thursday.
The agency has created the e-mail ID in compliance with the orders of the Calcutta High Court passed on Wednesday.
"The District Magistrate, North 24 Parganas has also been requested to give adequate publicity of the said e-mail ID in the locality and also issue a public notice in the vernacular dailies having a wide circulation in the areas as per the Hon'ble High Court's order," a CBI spokesperson said in a statement.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will start registering cases on the basis of the complaints received by it, sources said.
The high court on Wednesday ordered a court-monitored CBI probe into allegations of crimes against women and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali, saying an "impartial inquiry" is required in the interest of justice and fair play.
The court also directed the CBI to file a comprehensive report on the alleged illegal conversion of agricultural land into water bodies for pisciculture, after conducting a thorough inspection of the revenue records and a physical inspection of the land alleged to have been converted.
The court asked the central agency to submit a comprehensive report to it on the next date of hearing on May 2.
The state government was directed to provide the required support to the CBI.
The agency is already probing three cases related to attacks on Enforcement Directorate officials at Sandeshkhali allegedly by a mob instigated by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shahjahan Sheikh.

West Bengal Police on Tuesday issued summons to the NIA officer who was injured in the alleged attack during the central probe agency's raid in Purba Medinipur district last week, to appear before the investigating officer of the Bhupatinagar police station on April 11, an official said.
The Bhupatinagar police station investigating officer has also asked the NIA to bring the vehicle which was damaged allegedly during the attack on Saturday, stating that they want to conduct a forensic test of it, he said.
The police officer has also summoned three villagers from Bhupatinagar for questioning in connection to the attack on NIA officers when they went to arrest the two main conspirators in connection with a blast that took place in 2022 at Bhupatinagar in Purba Medinipur district in which three persons were killed.
"The NIA officer has been asked to appear before our officer on April 11. We have also asked them to send the vehicle which was damaged during the attack. We plan to conduct a forensic test on it," he told PTI.
The villagers have been asked to appear in two to three days, the officer said.
A team of the NIA was allegedly attacked by a mob on Saturday when it went to arrest two main suspects in the 2022 blast case in West Bengal's Purba Medinipur district, sparking a political slugfest with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accusing the investigators of assaulting villagers.
One NIA officer was injured and a vehicle was damaged in the attack on Saturday.
The attack on the NIA team happened around three months after villagers and locals assaulted a team of Enforcement Department (ED) officers when they went to raid the residence of, now arrested TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh on January 5 in connection with the alleged ration scam.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sukanya Sharma told The Indian Express that a case has been registered. &nbsp; &nbsp; &ldquo;The girl&rsquo;s condition is not stable. The accused is at the police station, and he will be produced before the juvenile court. The medical examination of the victim has confirmed rape. The boy has been booked under various sections including under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He will be sent to a juvenile home after being produced in court,&rdquo; Sharma said.&nbsp; Police have also deployed adequate force in the area, as the accused and victim belonged to different communities. &nbsp;
