Amid the intriguing sequence of events amid the festering political crisis in the state, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini addressed media persons on Friday, saying that the Opposition was misleading the people.
Digging in his heels amid claims by the Congress and the JJP that his government was in a minority after three Independent MLAs in their support switched sides, CM Saini called on the Opposition to come clean on the number of legislators who are with them and state the same in writing to the Governor.
Earlier, on Thursday, the JJP chief and former deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala wrote to Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, urging his intervention to end the political stalemate in the state. He called on the Governor to seek a floor test at the earliest and impose Presidents' Rule in the state if the government failed to prove its majority in the Assembly.
Playing down the Opposition claims that the BJP was presiding over a minority government, CM Saini said, "They (Opposition) have nothing to do with the people and only want to mislead them. They should give in writing to the Governor as to how many MLAs they have in their support and not mislead the people. We won the trust vote recently and will win it again if asked to prove majority in the House. They are merely trying to distract public attention from other issues. Corruption and scams were rampant under the previous Congress rule in the state."

Two Indian-origin brothers wanted in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old MTech student from India have been arrested by Australian police, media reports said.
Abhijeet Abhijeet, 26, and Robin Gartan, 27, were arrested on Tuesday in the New South Wales country town of Goulburn police are preparing to extradite them to Victoria, the Goulburn Post reported.
The brothers were on the run since the early hours of Sunday after Navjeet Sandhu from Noble Park was killed and a 30-year-old man, also from Noble Park, was injured at an Ormond home in Melbourne's southeast.
Police on Thursday charged Gartan with murder and attempted murder while Abhijeet was charged with affray, the report added.
They faced Goulburn Local Court on Thursday morning where their extradition to Victoria was granted.
The brothers are set to front the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.
Emergency services were called to the house on North Road at about 1 am following reports of a dispute.
Navjeet was fatally attacked with a knife by another student when he tried to intervene in a dispute between a few Indian students over some rent issue, according to the deceased victim's uncle Yashvir in Karnal, Haryana.
"Navjeet's friend (another Indian student) had asked him to accompany him to his house to pick up his belongings as he had a car. While his friend went inside, Navjeet heard some shouts and saw there was a scuffle. When Navjeet tried to intervene asking them not to fight, he was fatally stabbed in the chest with a knife," Yashvir said.
He added that like Navjeet, the alleged accused also hails from Karnal.
Navjeet's friend, whom he was accompanying, also sustained injuries in the incident, the uncle of the deceased said.
The injured man is married to the woman, while the man who died was his friend. A weapon was found at the home and will be forensically tested.
On Monday, Detective Inspector Dean Thomas told media that police believed the brothers lived at the Ormond home, where a party was held on Sunday, News.com.au reported.

The Congress on Wednesday sought the imposition of President's Rule followed by fresh polls in Haryana after three Independent MLAs withdrew support to the BJP dispensation, reducing the Nayab Singh Saini government to a minority in the state assembly.
The party said it would write to Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya to demand that the BJP government be dismissed. It also asked the JJP, the INLD and Independent MLA Balraj Kundu to write similar letters to the governor to give credence to their claim of opposing the BJP.
Talking to reporters in Sirsa on Wednesday, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini asserted that his government was not in trouble and was working strongly.
"We are going to write to the Governor that three Independent MLAs have withdrawn support and they have extended support to our party... the government is in the minority and they have no right to stay in power. We will demand that the government be dismissed, President's Rule be imposed and fresh elections be held," Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan said.
"Likewise, the JJP should also write a letter that the government be dismissed. INLD's Abhay Singh Chautala and Independent MLA Balraj Kundu, who claim to be opposing the government, should also write similar letters to the Governor," he added.
Bhan said the three Independent MLAs have already written to the Governor regarding their withdrawal of support.
Senior Congress leader B B Batra said the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), once an ally of the BJP in the state, should write to the Governor making it clear that they were not supporting the dispensation.
On Tuesday, JJP leader Digvijay Singh Chautala said Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda should initiate the process to "bring down" the Nayab Singh Saini government "which has lost the trust of people".

BJP's former ally Jannayak Janata Party said on Wednesday that it is ready to help the Congress bring down the BJP government in Haryana, a day after three Independent MLAs withdrew support to the ruling party.
Claiming that the BJP government is reduced to a minority, the Congress, on its part, demanded the imposition of the President's rule and early assembly elections in the state.
However, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini asserted that his government is not in any trouble. His predecessor and party colleague M L Khattar also claimed that many MLAs are in touch with the BJP and there is "nothing to worry ".
Independent MLAs Sombir Sangwan (Dadri), Randhir Singh Gollen (Pundri) and Dharampal Gonder (Nilokheri) withdrew support to the ruling BJP in Haryana on Tuesday and announced that they would back the Congress.
The fast-paced political developments in the state come at a time when Lok Sabha polls are just a fortnight away and Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in October.
Speaking to reporters in Hisar, Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) leader Dushyant Chautala said if a no-confidence motion is brought in the Assembly, they will vote against the Saini government.
"I want to tell Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda that going by the present numbers in the Assembly, when this government is in a minority, if a step is taken that this government is brought down during (Lok Sabha) elections, then we will fully consider to support them in this from outside".
"Now, the Congress has to think whether they will take a step to bring down the BJP government," Chautala said.
Reacting to this, Congress leader Hooda said, "They should write to the Governor (that government is in a minority)".
Dushyant Chautala also ruled out reviving his party's alliance with the BJP. The two parties had snapped ties in March.
"I have made it quite clear that JJP will not go with BJP now," Chautala said and demanded that Saini should either prove majority or submit his resignation.
The 90-member Haryana assembly at present has an effective strength of 88 with Karnal and Rania assembly seats being vacant. The BJP has 40 MLAs, the Congress 30 and the JJP 10 in the House. INLD and Haryana Lokhit Party has one member. Independents are six.
The government has the support of two of the Independent legislators.
Independent MLA Nayan Pal Rawat said he had given unconditional support to the BJP in 2019 and it is continuing even now.
"The government is not in any trouble, it is working strongly," Chief Minister Saini told reporters at Sirsa while replying to queries on the withdrawal of support.
However, Hooda said the Saini government is in a minority and it has no moral right to stay in power.
INLD's lone MLA Abhay Singh Chautala said that either the government should prove it has a majority or else "Governor's rule should be imposed".
Hitting out at the Congress, Saini said the opposition party's actions are only aimed at fulfilling the personal aspirations of some people. But the people of Haryana will not let the Congress' designs succeed, the chief minister said, adding the entire country is witnessing the "misdeeds" of the opposition party.
Later in Karnal, Saini said Congress has been rejected by various sections and is sinking.
About the three Independent MLAs, Saini said, "They are able legislators. How did fall into the (Congress) trap.... Four days ago I called them and spoke to them," said Saini.
Former chief minister Khattar downplayed the developments."During election season, who is going where is not going to have much impact. Many MLAs are in touch with us also, so no one should worry about this," he told reporters in Karnal.
In Chandigarh, while replying to a question, Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta said that the Saini government had won the trust vote on March 13.
"How can we say that the government is in a minority? It is intact and running as it was earlier," he told reporters.
Asked if a no-confidence motion can be brought against the government, the Speaker said, "Usually, when a no-confidence is brought, another one can only be brought six months after that. It is a technical matter." Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan said the party will write to the governor stating that the Saini government is in a minority and that it should be dismissed, the President's Rule imposed in the state and fresh polls announced.
The opposition party also asked the JJP, the INLD and Independent MLA Balraj Kundu to write similar letters to the governor to give credence to their claim of opposing the BJP.
Asked about some JJP MLAs indicating support to the BJP after his party pulled out of the coalition government in March, Dushyant Chautala said notices have been issued to three of them and they have been asked to submit a reply.
He said his party MLAs are bound by whip and if anyone wants to extend support against the party line they will have to resign first.
JJP MLAs Jogi Ram Sihag and Ram Niwas Surjakhera have extended support to the BJP in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls. JJP's Devender Babli has also called a meeting of his supporters in Tohana on May 11 to decide on the future course of action. Sources said another JJP MLA Ram Karan Kala is also contemplating similar action.
Saini had replaced Manohar Lal Khattar as chief minister in March and the JJP's four-and-a-half-year-old post-poll alliance with BJP had come to an end.
State Assembly polls in Haryana are due in October while the Karnal Assembly bypoll is scheduled for May 25 along with voting to the 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana.
Saini, the MP from Kurukshetra in the outgoing Lok Sabha, is the BJP candidate for the bypolls and if he wins, the party's strength in the Assembly will rise to 41.&nbsp;

Speaking to news outlet Indian Express, Babbar stated, "Gurgaon has been developed by outsiders. Moreover, individuals contesting elections in various cities are not necessarily from those cities, rendering this argument irrelevant. We are all Indians. They rely on these arguments as their strategies have proven ineffective over the years and fail to resonate with the people." Babbar's remarks came while campaigning in Haryana's Mewat and Nuh.&nbsp;

Action will be taken against auto drivers who don't wear uniforms and display unique identity badges, police said on Tuesday.
According to a letter issued on Monday by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) traffic Virender Vij, May 20 has been set as the deadline for the auto drivers to comply with the order.
"All the presidents of the auto unions of district Gurugram are informed that by May 20 all the auto drivers should wear grey-coloured uniforms with the badge stitched on the left side. After this, as per the instructions of the transport commissioner, Haryana, the auto drivers who do not follow the order will be challaned under the section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act," the letter stated.
"Dress code for auto drivers is already in force in Gurugram but some auto drivers are still not following the order. We have now given them time till May 20, after which strict action will be taken against auto drivers who do not follow the order," DCP Vij said.

In a terrifying turn of events, a Gurugram resident had to abandon their travel plans and rush back to safety after receiving a bone-chilling message from an Uber driver. The incident, shared on Reddit by user kushpyro1 under the subreddit r/Gurgaon, unfolded on a Saturday morning when the resident booked a ride to Anand Vihar Terminal.
The user narrated the incident, revealing they had booked a Priority Sedan Cab to catch a train. As the driver neared their location, the passenger checked their phone to verify the OTP and stumbled upon a shocking message in the Uber chat: "I want to kidnap you."
"I am shivering while writing this. I have a train in an hour, and God knows if I&rsquo;ll reach there on time," the user wrote, recounting the ordeal.
A Narrow Escape
Panicked yet quick-thinking, the passenger immediately took a screenshot of the chat and attempted to cancel the ride. "When I began to cancel, the driver canceled the ride himself. I ran back into my house with my luggage," the post read. The driver, identified as Chandan, was reportedly driving a Maruti Suzuki Dzire.
Autocorrect or Threat?
The post included a screenshot of the chat where the driver&rsquo;s last message read, "I want to go to kidnap you happily." Reddit users were divided in their reactions. While some speculated it might have been an autocorrect error, others suggested reporting the incident to authorities or Uber&rsquo;s customer support.
Seeking Justice and Safety

Some users advised the victim to escalate the matter by posting about it on X (formerly Twitter), as Uber actively responds to complaints there.

While the resident&rsquo;s quick actions ensured their safety, the incident is a grim reminder of the unexpected dangers that can arise during routine travel. Uber has yet to issue a statement on the matter.

Police have recovered eight mobiles, four CPUs and a box of SIM cards from their possession, they added.

A gang involved in extorting money by providing instant loans to people through an online app was busted by cyber police, officials said on Thursday.
Police arrested nine persons of the gang, including three owners and a manager of the app, they said.
They allegedly extorted money from those who did not repay the loans by morphing their photos and threatening to upload them on social media platforms, police said.
Police have recovered eight mobiles, four CPUs and a box of SIM cards from their possession, they added.
According to police, a woman filed a complaint on April 3 that she had availed a loan of Rs 3,000 through an online app, Finsara.
As she was not able to pay the loan on time, the loan app company harassed her by posting &ldquo;dirty posts&rdquo; on her Facebook and repeatedly posting &ldquo;objectionable photos&rdquo; on WhatsApp, she said in the complaint.
They threatened to send the photos to her family members if she did not pay the money, she added.
Police said based on the complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections at Cyber Crime (West) Police Station.
A team led by SHO Naveen Kumar busted the gang and arrested the nine accused from Udyog Vihar area last late night.
RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN THE HIGH COURT:
The Punjab and Haryana High Court, through its order dated 9th September 2024, quashed all FIRs filed against the individuals in question.
The court observed that the disputes between the parties had been "amicably resolved and were private in nature, with no broader societal impact".
In particular, the HC emphasized the propriety of quashing proceedings under Section 482 of the CrPC, "given the educational backgrounds, good reputations, and lack of criminal history of the individuals involved"

Jindal, a two-time Congress MP from Haryana&rsquo;s Kurukshetra from 2004 to 2014, sprang a surprise when he switched to the ruling BJP, which immediately named him its candidate for the constituency in the Lok Sabha elections.
The chairman of Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL), Naveen is the youngest of four sons of the late O.P. Jindal, who rose from farming in Hisar to found one of the largest steel industries in the country.
Naveen first hit the headlines in 1992 when, as a new management graduate from the University of Texas, objected when the local deputy commissioner asked him to remove the tricolour flying atop his factory at Raigarh in Chhattisgarh.
Jindal took the matter to the high court, seeking a change in the flag code to enable every Indian citizen to fly the tricolour on all days of the year. Finally, in 2004, the Supreme Court gave its judgment in his favour, ruling that flying the national flag was a symbol of freedom of expression.
The Jindal family had been aligned with the Congress party since patriarch O.P. Jindal&rsquo;s electoral debut on the party ticket in the 1991 Assembly polls. Both O.P. and, after his death, his wife Savitri served as ministers in different Congress governments in the state. However, O.P.&rsquo;s differences with the then Chief Minister Bhajan Lal in 1996 led to his shift to ex-CM Bansi Lal&rsquo;s Haryana Vikas Party, on whose ticket he successfully contested the Lok Sabha elections from the Kurukshetra seat.&nbsp;
He returned to the grand old party in 2000 and decided to usher Naveen into politics from Kurukshetra in the 2004 Lok Sabha polls, choosing to contest himself in the Assembly elections from Hisar. A year later, he died in a helicopter crash at Saharanpur along with Bansi Lal&rsquo;s son Surendra Singh.
The Jindal family&rsquo;s winning streak in politics ended in 2014 when both Naveen, from Kurukshetra, and his mother Savitri, who contested from her husband&rsquo;s Hisar Assembly seat, lost the polls.
Ironically, Naveen, who was booked by the CBI and the ED in the alleged coal scam cases during the Congress-led UPA rule in 2014, was brought down by the BJP campaign, with the BJP candidate defeating him by a huge margin in the 2014 polls. The Congress did not give him a ticket in the 2019 elections.
As Naveen is contesting the polls on a BJP ticket, it remains to be seen what will happen to the coal scam cases pending against him.
As Naveen Jindal resigned in March this year, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh commented, "When you need a giant-size washing machine, this had to happen. And after making ZERO contributions to the party in the last ten years, saying I am resigning from it is a big joke," in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Actor-turned politician Raj Babbar is looking for a comeback in electoral politics with the battle for Gurgaon. The Congress candidate is pitted against incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Rao Inderjit Singh in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.
Babbar is a three-time Lok Sabha member, who has represented both the Samajwadi Party and the Congress in the House.
But, his first brush with politics was in the late 1980s, when he campaigned for former Prime Minister VP Singh-led Janata Dal in Allahabad.
Soon, he caught the attention of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, as he worked among riot victims post the Babri Masjid demolition.&nbsp;
The story goes that Netaji approached Babbar, invited the actor to return to his native Uttar Pradesh, and campaign for the newly formed Samajwadi Party. Babbar campaigned for almost a month in 1993 for the UP Assembly polls.
He was rewarded with an SP-backed Rajya Sabha seat the very next year, when he was elected unopposed to the upper house.
Babbar's debut Lok Sabha contest was in 1996, when he was pitted against BJP veteran, and later Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Lucknow. Babbar lost, of course.
But the Samajwadis fielded him, once again, in the 1999 general election. Babbar defeated three-time BJP MP Bhagwan Shankar Rawat in his hometown Agra, and retained the seat for a second term in 2004.
His dream run in the SP, however, did not last very long. Babbar was suspended over differences with general secretary Amar Singh, who he accused of promoting 'broker culture' within the party.
The actor-politician joined the Congress in 2008.&nbsp;
Babbar then managed an unexpected victory in Mulayam's backyard. He defeated the SP supremo's daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav in the Firozabad constituency by a margin of 85,000 votes. He thereby secured a third consecutive term in the Lok Sabha in 2009.
That was his last big win in electoral politics. He lost from Ghaziabad against General (Retired) VK Singh of the BJP in 2014. Babbar was nominated to the Rajya Sabha from Uttarakhand two years later. But again, in 2019, he lost against BJP's Raj Kumar Chahar from Fatehpur Sikri.

Rahul Yadav Fazilpuria, born on April 10, 1990, hails from Fazilpuria Jharsa, a small village on the Haryana-Rajasthan border.&nbsp;
His journey to stardom began in 2014 with his hit rap song 'Ladki beautiful kar gayi chull'. The song&rsquo;s popularity soared further when it was featured in the 2016 Bollywood movie 'Kapoor and Sons,' starring Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt.
Fazilpuria&rsquo;s success in the music industry didn&rsquo;t stop there. He continued to promote Haryanvi folk music while also making significant strides in Bollywood. Over the years, he released several hit songs and albums, including 'Masti Mai,' 'Billo Rani,' and 'High Rated Gabru.' He also composed music for Bollywood films such as 'Khamoshiyan' and 'Mastizaade.'
The singer has often been in the headlines for his collection of luxury vehicles and accessories. He moves around in a Hummer and a Lamborghini, rides a Harley Davidson, and sports gold-studded Rolex watches and heavy gold chains.&nbsp;
<h3>Fazilpuria is no stranger to controversies</h3>
Fazilpuria&rsquo;s journey has been filled with controversies. In November 2023, he found his name in a scandal involving the use of snake venom at a rave party, an incident that also involved Bigg Boss OTT winner Elvish Yadav. While Yadav claimed that the snakes were arranged by Fazilpuria, the singer denied any involvement, stating that the snakes were provided by his production team solely for a video shoot. Despite the denials, the controversy continued to follow him, with further legal issues arising in March 2024 due to a petition filed by animal rights activist Saurabh Gupta.
Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), a youth-oriented political party led by Haryana&rsquo;s former deputy chief minister, Dushyant Chautala, officially nominated Rahul Yadav Fazilpuria on April 16 as its candidate for the Gurgaon Lok Sabha seat. He is set to contest against the five-time MP and BJP stalwart Rao Inderjit Singh, Congress candidate Raj Babbar, and local Kusheshwar Bhagat, the Pao Bhaji seller.
As Gurgaon prepares for the Lok Sabha elections on May 25, all eyes will be on Rahul Yadav Fazilpuria. His blend of celebrity status, grassroots connection, and bold personality makes him a unique contender in this high-stakes political battle.

At least eight people were burnt alive and more than 20 were injured when a moving bus caught fire near Tauru in Haryana's Nuh district in the early hours of Saturday, police said.
The incident occurred around 2 am on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway. The bus was carrying around 60 people, all of whom were residents of Punjab and Chandigarh and were returning from Mathura-Vrindavan, police said.
Locals noticed the fire, chased the bus and asked the driver to stop. They also informed the police and the fire department.
Eight people were killed and more than 20 were injured in the fire. The injured were rushed to the hospital, police said.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann will campaign for AAP in Haryana's Kurukshetra constituency on May 14.
AAP Haryana unit chief and its Kurukshetra candidate Sushil Gupta on Saturday also said these elections are "to save India's Constitution and democracy".
Campaigning in some villages in Kaithal, Gupta said Kejriwal, AAP's national convenor, and Mann will come to Kurukshetra on May 14.
The Supreme Court on Friday granted Kejriwal interim bail in a money-laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam to enable him to campaign during the elections.
Gupta said many people made sacrifices during the country's freedom struggle and, in the same manner, parties under the opposition INDIA bloc have united "to save the Constitution and democracy".
"The entire country is voting for change this time," Gupta said and claimed the BJP will be ousted from power.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to double farmers' incomes and provide employment to two crore youngsters every year "but all his promises turned out to be "jumlas (rhetoric)", the AAP leader said.
Gupta also alleged that the BJP-led Centre misused agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against political opponents.
Taking on the BJP government in Haryana, he claimed farmers, sarpanches and anyone who raised their voice in support of their demands "had to face lathis" during its nine-and-a-half-year rule.
Gupta told the electorate, "Your MP should be one who can raise people's voice in the Parliament." INDIA bloc partners AAP and the Congress are contesting the elections in an alliance in Haryana. While AAP has fielded Gupta from Kurukshetra, the Congress is contesting the remaining nine seats.
