India has exported smartphones worth Rs 12,000 crore in May, out of which iPhones shipment stands at Rs 10,000 crore, reported Economic Times citing data from India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) .

As per ICEA, in April and May 2023, smart phone exports by India crossed Rs 20,000 crore. This is more than double the export that was seen last year during the same period. In April and May 2022, the smart phone export by India stood at Rs 9,066 crore. In FY23, exports of Apple iPhones crossed $5 billion, becoming the first single brand to achieve this.

As per the Economic Times, iPhones constitute 80% of the smartphone exports from India, while the rest comprises the phones of Korea's Samsung and some local brands.

Apple has been expanding its supply chain out of China and India is emerging as an iPhone production hub. India's smartphone production-linked incentive scheme has made Apple to shift its focus to India.

As per ET, India is also hoping to use Apple's deepening engagement as an example to convince other US companies such as Tesla to shift their supply chains here. An offcial told the publication, that the Indian delegation is expected to highlight Apple's success story in India during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the US from 21st June to 24th June.
