MakeMyTrip report: 25% surge in annual trips, Indians taking more trips than ever before

Indians are indulging in more frequent vacations than ever before, with a remarkable surge in annual trips, according to the latest findings from the Travel Trends Report by MakeMyTrip. The report unveils a 25% increase in the number of individuals taking over three trips per year in 2023 compared to the pre-pandemic era of 2019.

As the wanderlust grips the nation, there's a notable shift towards exploring domestic gems. Weekend getaways are in vogue, with a staggering 131% surge in searches for Jim Corbett in 2023. Ooty and Munnar are also emerging as favoured destinations for short breaks.

Beyond leisure, spiritual journeys are gaining traction, especially among residents of Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. Searches for destinations nestled around religious sites have skyrocketed by 97% over the past two years. Ayodhya takes the lead with a whopping 585% increase in searches, followed by Ujjain and Badrinath.

On the international front, Dubai, Bangkok, and Singapore remain the top picks, collectively constituting 30% of total searches. Meanwhile, long-haul dreams are dominated by London, Toronto, and New York, as per the report's insights.

In a curious revelation, the report sheds light on gender-specific travel habits. Women exhibit a penchant for pre-booking window seats, while men prefer aisle seats, particularly during air travel. Additionally, the humble tomato cucumber cheese lettuce sandwich emerges as the reigning champion of in-flight meals on domestic routes.

Drawing from data gathered from over 100 million annual active users, MakeMyTrip's comprehensive report provides insights into India's travel landscape.
