Massive 184% uptick in hiring for white collar gig jobs: Foundit report

Gig employment in India is expanding as it witnessed a whopping 184% rise in white-collar gig jobs this year compared to the previous year. Hiring platform Foundit also revealed that the number of gig workers has expanded by 21% over the same period. At the centre of this gig boom is the Information Technology sector, said the report.

Hiring in gig economy

As per the hiring agency, the share of IT software in the gig economy has nearly doubled, jumping from 22% in March 2023 to a dominant 46% in March 2024. On a month on month basis, the overall hiring activity picked up with a 3% increase compared to the last month. However, the hiring declined by 4% compared to the previous year.

The demand for Coder and IT consultant positions rose 18% while the demand for content creators rose 8% and Trainer position saw 4% rise. Sector wise after IT sector which saw a 7% rise, BPO/ITES saw a rise of 2% in March 2024 from -2% in February 2024 in BPO/ITES. This was followed by Manufacturing and Production at 6%, Telecom/ISP at 2% and Healthcare at -3%.

Citywise, Bengaluru and Chennai saw 0.02% while Hyderabad and Kolkatta saw 0.5% rise. Meanwhile, hiring went down by 3% in Ahmedabad and it remained stagnant Delhi, Mumbai and Pune.
