Tata Group is likely to complete its takeover of Wistron's iPhone plant by April end. 2,000 factory personnel, 400 mid-level executives might be let go 

Tata Group to takeover Wistron's iPhone plant in Bengaluru

Tata group is set to complete the buyout process of Wistron's iPhone plant in Bengaluru. The move is expected to be completed by the end of April. This would be the first homegrown production line for Apple in India

As per Business Line, the group has already started organisational changes at the plant. 2,000 jobs would be affected after the takeover. As per Business Line, the Bengaluru iPhone plant may also see an attrition of 400 mid-level executives. Already about 4- 5 senior level executives have been let go or are in the process of exiting.

With this takeover, Wistron will be completely divesting from the iPhone business in India which is estimated to be worth $600 million. So far, Wistron's Indian plant had nearly eight production lines and are manufacturing iPhone 12 and iPhone 14. As per Business Line, There are speculations that Tata will start manufacturing iPhone 15 after the takeover.

Tata has also taken other efforts to expand its business with Apple. The group has increased the hiring at its plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, where iPhone components are manufactured.
