TCS to deploy 4G network across India for BSNL; Receives ₹ 15,000 crore project

Tata Consultancy Services has announced that it received an advance purchase order of ₹15,000 crore from BSNL to deploy 4G network across India. This order will be deployed by a consortium that is lead by TCS. The consortium consists of Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) and Tejas Networks.

TCS informed the exchanges on the development. “The consortium led by Tata Consultancy Services Limited has received an Advance Purchase Order valued over Rs15,000 crore from BSNL, a 100% Govt. of India owned Public Sector Undertaking, for the deployment of a 4G network across India,” TCS wrote in a note to exchanges.

This comes at a time when TCS - which is India's largest software exporter - is facing a drop in demand from its main markets of U.S and China. This deal is one of the largest deal closed by TCS in the recent quarters.

BSNL has been planning to launch 4G services since 2019. However, the telecom company had to cancel a tender due to restrictive conditions for domestic firms. BSNL had already tested homegrown 4G technology in collaboration with TCS, Tejas Network and C-Dot. The Department of Telecommunications said last week that over 24,600 uncovered villages, mostly in remote and far-flung areas, are expected to get BSNL 4G services by December 2023.
