Woman slapped, kicked in public in Karnataka; people watch mutely; personal dispute, say police

In shocking visuals viral on social media, a woman was mercilessly beaten up by a man in Karnataka. The incident occurred in Vinayak Nagar in Bagalkote district on May 14.

The victim was Sangeetha, a lawyer, and the assailant was her neighbour Mahantesh. He was seen slapping and kicking her, even as witnesses stood mutely.

At one point, Sangeetha tried to defend herself with a stool, but had to drop it as the attack continued. The man was later arrested.

The cause of the assault was personal enmity over a civil dispute, according to the police. The two have been at loggerheads in the past too, with Mahantesh accusing Sangeetha of harassment as well.
