Road to Delhi goes via Lucknow, will BJP be able to sweep Uttar Pradesh?| The India Story

With the Election Commission announcing dates for the General Elections from April 19, the battle for 2024 Lok Sabha polls has intensified. The elections will be held in seven phases from April 19-June 1 and the counting of votes will be done on June 4.

India's largest state Uttar Pradesh will vote in all seven phases. With 80 Parliamentary seats up for grabs, all eyes are set on the country's political heartland. In 2014, the BJP won 71 seats in the state, a monumental increase from the 10 seats it won in LS 2009 elections. Their number slipped to 62 in 2019 elections but the party emerged as the single largest party for the second straight time. Ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP has set a target of winning 400 parliamentary seats but to achieve that the party and its allies have to secure maximum seats from Uttar Pradesh.

Can BJP replicate its win from 2019 and 2014 in the state? Who will Dalits and Muslims vote for? How will BSP going solo impact BJP's prospects in the state and will SP-Congress pact under INDIA alliance stop BJP juggernaut in Uttar Pradesh?

Editorji's Vikram Chandra travelled to UP's Amroha and spoke with key players of the muslim dominated constituency, Danish Ali, MP Amroha, Kanwar Singh Tanwar, BJP candidate and Samajwadi Party leader and Amroha MLA Mehboob Ali to find answers to these crucial questions.
