‘On Saturday, May 18th, at 6:30pm, immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Indian cinema as we celebrate the musical mastery of RRR (2022), SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE (2008), and LAGAAN (2001),' Academy Museum wrote. 

Academy Museum to honour 'vibrant world of Indian cinema' with 'RRR,' 'Lagaan,' and more!

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, dedicated to the art, science, and artists of filmmaking, is set to celebrate Indian cinema and its music. An event honouring the musical brilliance of 'RRR' (2022), 'Slumdog Millionaire' (2008), and 'Lagaan' (2001) was announced through a social media post by the Academy Museum.

Sharing the posters of the films, the Academy Museum wrote, ‘On Saturday, May 18th, at 6:30pm, immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Indian cinema as we celebrate the musical mastery of RRR (2022), SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE (2008), and LAGAAN (2001). Experience the soundscapes of these iconic films, followed by a captivating live tabla and dance performance by Bollypop and Sadubas, offering their unique reinterpretation of the music from all three movies (sic).’

Scheduled for May 18 at 6:30 pm, the event will feature a live tabla and dance performance by Bollypop and Sadubas, interpreting music from all three films.

SS Rajamouli’s connection with the Academy Awards

SS Rajamouli has a significant history with the Academy Awards. The song ‘Naatu Naatu’ from ‘RRR’, featuring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, won Best Song at the 2023 Oscars. The film has also earned 6 National Film Awards and a Golden Globe Award.

‘Lagaan’ at the Oscars

In 'Lagaan', Aamir Khan played the role of Bhuvan, leading a village facing drought and heavy British taxes.

‘Slumdog Millionaire’ at the Oscars

'Slumdog Millionaire', set in India, starred Anil Kapoor, the late Irrfan Khan, Dev Patel, and Freida Pinto. The film won multiple Oscars in 2009, including Best Director for Danny Boyle, Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, and Best Sound Mixing for Resul Pookutty. AR Rahman also won Best Original Score and Best Original Song for 'Jai Ho'.
