‘Adipurush’ actor Siddhant Karnick comes out in defence of film: ‘Need to show our gods are cooler’

Actor Siddhant Karnick, who played the role of Vibhishan in Om Raut’s controversial film ‘Adipurush’, has come out in defence of the movie. In an interview with ETimes, he shared that after the credits rolled, he saw a 10-year-old dancing in the theatre which made him appreciate how the movie is getting the younger generation acquainted with the mythological epic.

Siddhant further said, ‘I see my nephews and even some adult friends of mine wearing superhero T-shirts which are largely fictional characters like Spider-Man and Superman. And here we have our own itihaas (history) filled with superheroes and mythological gods whose stories and images are still in text form. We need to use pop culture smartly so that we can pass on the stories of our gods to the generation of our children, show them that our gods are cooler and far more layered than fictional superheroes.’

The actor added that he is not against Western superheroes but wants people to focus on ‘our own gods.’.

Earlier, actor Lavi Pajni, who played the role of Kumbhkaran in the film, told Aaj Tak that he was offended by the dialogues of the film as he’s a Hindu too.

‘Adipurush’, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan, was released in cinemas on June 16. It has been severely criticised for its dialogues and visual effects. Despite a strong opening, the film failed at the box office.
