Comedian Vir Das, who has been awarded the International Emmy Award for Comedy for his Netflix special ‘Vir Das: Landing’, recognised the exemplary work done by his other colleagues from India.

In an NDTV interview, Vir Das lauded Shefali Shah's exceptional talent, despite her missing out on an Emmy for 'Delhi Crime 2.'

He compared her to India's Meryl Streep and expressed his learning experience from her.

He said, ‘Shefali Shah is a once in a generation talent. I really think she is India’s Meryl Streep. I really just learnt a lot by being around Shefali.’

Although Shefali Shah didn't win, losing to Karla Souza for 'La Cada,' Vir Das emphasized the privilege of sharing space with such remarkable talents.

He highlighted Jim Sarbh's talent, who was nominated for an International Emmy for 'Rocket Boys,' although Martin Freeman took home the award.

After clinching the Emmy for Best Comedy, Vir Das celebrated on Instagram, sharing pictures with the prestigious award.

The first image is a close-up of him wearing a black formal suit and carrying the trophy. He is also seen posing with his colleagues in another photo.

In the caption, he wrote, ‘For India For Indian comedy. Every breath, every word. Thank you to the Emmys for this incredible honour.’

Upon winning the award, the comedian stated, ‘This moment is truly surreal – an incredible honor that feels like a dream. Winning an Emmy for ‘Vir Das: Landing’ in the ‘Comedy Category’ is not just a milestone for me but for Indian comedy as a whole.’

The 51st International Emmy Awards ceremony was held in New York City on November 20.

Vir Das shared the award with ‘Derry Girls’ Season 3.
