Academy Award winning actress Louise Fletcher dies at the age of 88 in her sleep

Actor Louise Fletcher has died at the age of 88 at her home in Montdurausse, France. Her family confirmed the report about her demise and said she died of natural cause.

Louise garnered widespread praise for playing Nurse Ratched in the Milos Forman-directed 1975 film 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest', which also starred Jack Nicholson in the lead role. She had won an Academy Award for best actress for her performance in the film. Her acting career spanned over 6 decades - in both television and in films.

She had a recurring role in 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine' as the Bajoran religious leader Kai Winn Adami. As reported by Deadline, Louise died in her sleep, surrounded by family, at her home which she had built from a 300-year-old farmhouse.

Fletcher's family didn't specify the cause of death, but her agent David Shaul reportedly said that on September 23, she had told her family about her beloved home, 'I can’t believe I created something so meaningful to my well-being.'

Louise became the only third woman to bag an Oscar, Golden Globe Award and BAFTA for a single performance.
